How to calculate Etsy fees

Etsy fees = $0.20 listing + 6.5% × (price + shipping + gift wrap) + processing % × (order total with tax) + processing flat fee + regulatory operating fee + Offsite Ads, if the order came from an ad.

Example for a US shop: a $25 item with $5 shipping.

  1. $0.20listing fee
  2. $1.956.5% of $30
  3. $1.153% of $30 + $0.25
  4. $3.30total Etsy fees

If the item cost you $8 and shipping costs you $4, you keep $14.70 — a 49% margin on the $30 order. If the same order came from an Offsite Ad, add 15% of $30 = $4.50.

The fixed parts — $0.20 listing and $0.25 processing — make small orders relatively more expensive.

VAT on Etsy fees

Shops in the UK and the EU (except Ireland) that have not given Etsy a VAT ID pay VAT on their seller fees; with a VAT ID added, Etsy does not charge it and issues a monthly invoice instead. In Ireland and Switzerland Etsy charges VAT on fees in any case (Swiss VAT standard rate 8.1%). The calculator adds VAT at your country’s standard rate when you tick the box.

Etsy fees in pounds, euros and other currencies

Fixed fees such as the $0.20 listing fee and the $100 Offsite Ads cap are set in US dollars. Etsy converts them to your payment account currency at the market rate on the day the fee is charged, so a UK shop pays a little more or less than 15p per listing depending on the rate.

The calculator converts them at the European Central Bank reference rate shown next to the result; type today’s rate if you need an exact figure. If you list in one currency and get paid in another, tick the 2.5% currency conversion box.

How to price on Etsy with fees included

Most Etsy fees are a percentage of the order, so a markup that covers only the item cost leaves less than you expect. Start from the break-even price in the calculator — the lowest item price at which the sale covers your cost, your shipping and every fee — and add your margin on top.

  • Count shipping: the transaction fee and payment processing apply to the shipping you charge.
  • Plan for Offsite Ads: if your shop made $10,000 or more in a year, you cannot opt out, so 12% belongs in your price.
  • Check prices after a change in exchange rates if you sell in a currency other than your own.

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate Etsy fees?

Add four parts: the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, the payment processing fee (3% + $0.25 in the US, 4% + £0.20 in the UK, 4% + €0.30 in eurozone countries) and, in some countries, the regulatory operating fee. Offsite Ads add 15% or 12% when a sale comes from an ad.

How much does Etsy take from a $200 sale?

$19.45 for a US shop with no shipping charged and no Offsite Ads: $0.20 listing fee + $13.00 transaction fee (6.5%) + $6.25 payment processing (3% + $0.25). If the order came from an Offsite Ad, add 15% — $30.

How much does Etsy take from a $10 sale?

$1.40 for a US shop: $0.20 listing + $0.65 transaction fee + $0.55 payment processing. On small orders the fixed parts weigh more: 14% of the price.

Does Etsy take 30%?

Not by default. A US shop pays about 10% of a typical order (6.5% transaction + 3% + $0.25 processing + $0.20 listing). With a 15% Offsite Ads fee on top, the total comes to about a quarter of the order.

What are Etsy fees in the UK?

For a UK shop: $0.20 listing fee, 6.5% transaction fee, 4% + £0.20 payment processing and a 0.48% regulatory operating fee on the item price, shipping and gift wrap. VAT may be added to seller fees if you have not given Etsy a VAT ID.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the regulatory operating fee apply to the shipping you charge, and payment processing applies to the whole order, sales tax included.

What are Offsite Ads fees?

15% of the order if your shop has always made less than $10,000 on Etsy in any 365 days, 12% once it has made $10,000 or more. The fee is charged only when a sale comes from an ad and never exceeds $100 per order.

What is the Etsy set-up fee?

Etsy charges a one-time, non-refundable fee when you open a shop; the amount depends on your location and is shown during shop set-up. It is not part of the fee per sale, so the calculator leaves it out.
