Why sizes differ between brands
There is no single mandatory size grid: every brand builds its chart on its own patterns and shoe lasts. That is why the tables here are labelled by brand — adidas and Nike, checked 28 October 2026. Use them as a guide, and check the manufacturer’s chart before you buy. Even within one brand, a women’s S and a men’s S differ by several centimetres.
How to take measurements
- Chestaround the fullest part, tape level
- Waistat the narrowest point, without pulling in
- Hipsaround the widest part
- Footstand on paper, trace, measure heel to the longest toe
Keep the tape flat and do not pull it tight. Measure feet in the evening, both of them, and use the longer one. Between two sizes, take the larger.
Size charts for an online store: what to show on the product page
Shoppers need measurements in centimetres or inches and the foot length, not just a letter. Each brand needs its own chart: when the chart is missing or does not match the brand, products come back. State the size system — EU, UK or US: Google Merchant Center requires a size for clothing and shoes and, without a size system, assumes the default for the target country — see product feeds for Google Shopping. A short “how to measure” note cuts returns for “wrong size”.
In Elbuz, AI builds a size chart for each brand in a category and keeps it with the products — see the Elbuz PIM.
Common sizing mistakes
- Choosing by letter instead of measurements: an S from different brands is a different size.
- Measuring one foot in the morning: feet are larger in the evening and often differ in length.
- Mixing up US men’s and women’s shoe sizes — in adidas they are one size apart.
