Intel golden parachute: €500,000 for voluntary redundancy in Ireland
Intel is offering generous severance benefits to employees in Ireland through a voluntary separation program as it strives to optimize costs and adapt to changes in the market.
Intel Restructuring
Voluntary Separation Offer
Intel Company in Ireland took the initiative, inviting employees of the Leixlip plant to voluntarily leave their positions with compensation of up to 500 thousand euros. The decision follows the recent announcement of plans to cut 15% of its workforce to optimize costs.
Program conditions
According to the conditions presented, employees can apply for participation in the program until August 23. Those who have served more than two years have the opportunity to receive an additional five weeks of pay for each year of service. This is in addition to the standard Irish practice of paying two weeks' salary per year of work, capped at €600 per week.
For employees with less than two years of service, five weeks' salary is provided for year of work. The maximum amount of severance pay can reach 500 thousand euros if the application for voluntary dismissal is approved. The results of the application review will be announced on September 6, and approved candidates will leave the company on September 30.
Scale of cuts
Intel's Irish division currently employs about 4,900 people. If the company decides to implement a 15 percent workforce reduction, it could affect approximately 730 employees. However, the exact number of layoffs in Ireland has not yet been disclosed as Intel is still assessing the local impact of the restructuring.
Previous savings measures
Intel has already taken steps to cut costs in 2022, offering up to 2,000 workers in Ireland to take three months of unpaid leave. The company has already cut about 5% of its workforce from October 2022 to the end of 2023.
Strategic Changes
Intel recently moved a significant portion of its processor production to Ireland. The decision, according to Chief Financial Officer David Zinsner, resulted in $1 billion in capital expenditure savings despite a short-term decline in gross margin. The company expects this move to bring benefits in the long term.

Wow, Intel is offering such generous severance packages! Up to €500 thousand is a serious amount. I wonder how many employees will take advantage of this offer? 🤔
Klaus
Isabella, yes, the amount is impressive! But don't forget that this is the maximum. I think few people will get that much. Still, this is a good chance for those who want to change jobs or start their own business. 💼
Amélie
I agree with Klaus. This could be a great opportunity for many. But I am worried that this may lead to a brain drain from the company. Do you think Intel will be able to retain key employees? 🧠
Javier
Amélie, good question! I think Intel has probably thought through this strategy. They may be planning to bring in new talent or restructure teams. And moving production to Ireland could open up new opportunities. 🏭
Viktor
Ha, more corporate nonsense! First they lure people in and then throw them out. So what if the benefit is large? It’s not easy to find a job later. And Intel only thinks about profits, as always. 😒
Isabella
Viktor, I understand your dissatisfaction, but agree that €500 thousand is not just a handout. This is a real chance to change your life. Maybe someone has long dreamed of opening their own business, but here is such an opportunity! 🚀
Klaus
I wonder how this will affect the job market in Ireland? 730 highly qualified specialists can make a significant difference. Maybe this will give impetus to the development of new startups in the technology sector? 💡
Amélie
Klaus, great idea! This could be the start of a new technology boom in Ireland. It’s also interesting how this will affect Intel itself in the long term. David Zinsner talks about savings, but will this affect the company's innovation potential? 🤖
