Uklon and OKKO launched an inclusive taxi in Lviv - details of the project.
OKKO gas station network and Ukrainian online car calling service Uklon launched a new service called Inclusive car class in Lviv. From now on, people with limited physical abilities who use wheelchairs have the opportunity to order a car with special equipment for comfortable movement. This was reported by representatives of the Uklon company in an interview with AIN.UA.
"Vehicles of the Inclusive Class are equipped with a hydraulic or mechanical lift, a ramp, special safety straps and mechanisms for fixing a wheelchair. To order an adapted taxi in the Uklon app, users need to specify the desired route and select the Inclusive class. Trips can be ordered both in the center of Lviv and in the outskirts of the city, within a radius of up to 20 kilometers," company representatives said.
The average cost of one equipped car ranges from $40,000 to $50,000. The general director of Uklon, Serhiy Hryshkov, told about this and many other detailed projects.
Expansion of the Inclusive Taxi service in Lviv
The implementation of the new Inclusive Taxi function from Uklon began in April 2023 and was quite successfully tested. The former beta testing has changed to full operation and now passengers can enjoy all the benefits of this service.
We are constantly improving our service, so we add various improvements that are necessary for the convenient and safe transportation of passengers. We cannot study the experience of competitors, because our story is unique, but we study all the details while working on the service itself.
How to evaluate the success of the project? The demand for our service is very high and unfortunately, we cannot satisfy all customers at full capacity due to the small number of adapted cars. Currently, 6 cars are operating in Kyiv, which were purchased by our partners — MacPaw and MasterCard. In Lviv, we put 3 more cars into operation in partnership with OKKO. We will constantly look for ways to expand our fleet. Therefore, we can say that "beta testing" was only a stage of development and improvement of the service, and we are currently preparing for its full functioning.
Popularity of the Inclusive Taxi function and future plans
The Inclusive Taxi service has already gained considerable popularity. We have plans to scale the service in cities where Uklon is already present, as well as in cities where we plan to launch our services. We rely on cooperation with other socially responsible businesses and believe in the power of partnership. In a few months, starting from April last year, we made about 8,000 trips in the Inclusive class.
Why was Lviv chosen for the implementation of Inclusive Taxi? Project expansion prospects
Lviv was chosen to launch the Inclusive Taxi service, first of all, because of the large number of city residents. We understand that Lviv is the second most populous city in Ukraine. There are also many military hospitals in Lviv, where wounded soldiers are rehabilitated, who also need amenities and opportunities for movement.
Investments are necessary to implement the service in Kyiv and Lviv
The development of the Inclusive Taxi project requires significant attachments That is why we work together with other socially responsible businesses. Each equipped car costs an average of $40,000 to $50,000. Also, taking into account operating costs: maintenance, fuel, drivers, and more. We have no income from this class of cars.
Characteristics of cars and drivers
We only work with cars that fully meet comfort requirements and safety of passengers with disabilities. During the launch of the service in Kyiv, we held consultations with the NGO "Bezbariernost" and active participants. After that, each driver undergoes special training and selection to get a job in the Inclusive service. Uklon employees and passengers are very satisfied with the work of these drivers, who sincerely care about passengers and provide them with a high level of service.
