The conflict of the TikTok platform with Universal: the songs of Ukrainian artists have disappeared
The songs of Ukrainian musicians have disappeared from TikTok due to a conflict between the platform and Universal
The popular music platform TikTok has lost the songs of domestic artists who cooperate with the ENKO label, reports Suspilne Kultura. The reason is that ENKO is a partner of Universal Music Group (UMG), which on February 1 decided to remove its music from TikTok due to disagreements over royalties payments to artists.
UMG owns the rights to the music of global celebrities such as Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, and others, but has been unable to agree on a new music licensing deal with TikTok. UMG accuses the platform of underpaying artists, despite its significant advertising revenue.
As a result, not only popular compositions of world celebrities disappeared from TikTok, but also tracks of Ukrainian artists collaborating with ENKO, including Alyona Alyona, Jerry Heil, YAKTAK, NAHABA and ANKA, who participated in the national qualifying stage for Eurovision 2024.
It is worth noting that the deletion only applies to official records. Unofficial recordings and live cover performances remain available on the platform.
