1 minutes.
Starting with iOS 14.5, Apple requires app developers to notify users about widespread tracking of their activity so they can opt-in or opt-out of such tracking. Google apps stopped certain tracking methods in 2021 due to Apple's requirements. However, YouTube is preparing to ask iOS users for permission to enable "more personalized advertising."
Ad Personalization
Tracking Request
YouTube for iOS will soon include a one-time request to allow third-party tracking of user activity apps and websites to deliver personalized advertising and analytics. Users will be asked to choose one of two options:
- Allow activity tracking for personalized advertising and analytics.
- Opt out of activity tracking. In this case, advertising will be less personalized, which may result in less relevant ads or more repeated ads.
Exceptions
The tracking permission prompt will not be shown to YouTube Premium subscribers and users with children's accounts.
Changing settings
Users will subsequently be able to change their activity tracking permission through the iOS settings section: Settings > Privacy and Security > Tracking".

Complete nonsense! 😡 This is another attempt to rob users through advertising. YouTube will literally spy on us in order to push ads in more efficiently.

Undoubtedly, Google has one goal - to earn more from advertising. 💰 But this is also beneficial for the user - more relevant, and therefore less annoying advertising.

I am for transparency! 🔍 Users finally realize that their activity is being tracked. But why hasn't Google made opt-out by default?

This is normal practice in the era of big data. 📊 YouTube warns and gives you a choice, unlike many other services.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong here. 👍 This way we will get more useful advertising instead of intrusive nonsense about weight loss or casinos.

For me, it’s better to let them track and show relevant advertising than to always play the same thing. 😒 And privacy settings will help those who are against it.

I'm glad Google cleared things up! 👏 At least now we understand what we pay for when watching free content. Great balance of transparency and user choice.
