YouTube blocks access to its videos for ad-blocking apps
YouTube continues to crack down on ad blockers for mobile devices, making it more difficult to access content and offering premium subscriptions to avoid viewing ads.
Ad blockers
Introduction
Video platform YouTube introduces new measures aimed at limiting the use of third-party applications , blocking ads when watching videos on mobile devices. The service administration states that such programs violate the Terms of Use because they do not allow content creators to receive compensation for viewing advertisements.
Access restrictions
Users may encounter problems such as buffering delays or access error messages. The platform intends to make it difficult or completely block access to content for such applications.
Alternative solutions
YouTube offers two solutions to the problem. The first is to subscribe to a paid premium access, which allows you to watch videos without ads. In Ukraine, the subscription cost is 99 UAH per month for one account, 149 UAH for a family subscription (up to 6 people over 13 years old) and 59 UAH for students.
Previous measures
Back in November 2022, YouTube launched a global campaign to combat ad blockers. Initially, users with active blockers received pop-up notifications about Terms of Use violations. Then a restriction was introduced in the form of the ability to watch only three videos before blocking further access. In addition, Google announced possible problems with loading and delays when using blockers.
Paused Ads
In addition to these measures, YouTube is considering showing ads when videos are paused. Testing of this feature began in May last year, and the results were positive.

Blocking ads on YouTube prevents bloggers from making money. They create content, and blockers prevent them from monetizing it 😕

I agree, advertising is really important for funding many channels. But on the other hand, someone just doesn’t want to see her 🙄

YouTube Premium is a good solution for those who don't like ads. I subscribed to it and now the viewing experience is much more enjoyable! 👍

I don't mind advertising, but sometimes it can be too intrusive. That's why I use a blocker, but I try to watch the channels I like without it 🤷♀️

I don't like these changes! 😠 I love watching YouTube without ads, and these new restrictions are very disappointing.

Did you know that in the good old days there were no advertisements on YouTube? Just a video and that's it! 😄 These newfangled things only spoil all the fun.

I understand bloggers, but advertising is sometimes too intrusive. Maybe they could develop some kind of system where viewers choose which advertisements they want to see? 🤔

Overall, I support these changes. Bloggers deserve compensation for their work, and advertising is one way for them to get it 💰
