According to the Financial Times, the social network X faced the problem of slowing down the growth of new users. This is due to the controversial decisions of the owner of the platform, Elon Musk, and increased competition from Threads, created by Mark Zuckerberg.
According to unpublished data, the number of daily active users of X worldwide per second quarter of this year reached 251 million. This is only 1.6% more than in the same period last year. These numbers are in stark contrast to the double-digit growth seen before Elon Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion in October 2022.
Impact of Musk's decisions on the platform
The Financial Times attributes this slowdown to the fact that Musk's actions are causing controversy around the company . X has lost a significant portion of advertisers in part due to its "absolute free speech" stance and mass firing of moderators. Musk himself explains these steps with the need to cut costs.
In addition, the billionaire is known for his provocative statements on the X platform. For example, in last November, he endorsed a post with anti-Semitic content, leading to the withdrawal of several major advertisers, including Disney, Apple and IBM. Musk also often spreads Russian propaganda.
