WD Black SN850X: Revolutionary 8TB SSD for Gamers at an Affordable Price
Western Digital introduces the new WD Black SN850X 8TB SSD with impressive specifications and a competitive price, expanding the storage options for gamers and enthusiasts.
Powerful WD drive
Pre-orders start
Western Digital has opened pre-orders for the new WD Black SN850X M.2 NVMe Gen 4 8 TB SSD model. The version without a heatsink (WDS800T2X0E) is available for $849, while the version with a heatsink (WDS800T2XHE) costs $50 more. It is worth noting that Western Digital is one of the few major manufacturers offering drives of this size with similar characteristics.
Impressive performance
The 8 TB WD Black SN850X demonstrates high performance compared to other high-capacity SSDs. The drive provides sequential read performance of 7.2 GB/s, which is only slightly inferior to the 1, 2 and 4 TB models (7.3 GB/s). The sequential write speed reaches 6.6 GB/s, and the random write speed reaches 1.2 million input/output operations per second (IOPS). Such characteristics are more than sufficient for modern gaming applications.
Technical features
The drive is based on a proprietary Western Digital controller combined with 3D TLC NAND flash memory manufactured by KIOXIA. It is not yet known whether the 8 TB version uses the same 112-layer BiCS5 memory as the 4 TB model. The declared recording resource for the 8 TB variant is an impressive 4800 TB. The manufacturer provides a 5-year warranty on these drives.
Competitive Pricing
The WD Black SN850X is currently priced more attractively than comparable 8TB PCIe 4.0 drives from competitors. For comparison, the MP600 PRO XT SSD from Corsair costs about $950, the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus costs $1,200. Teamgroup is offering its 8TB MP44 for $825. All of these SSDs provide read speeds of 7 GB/s.

Wow, 8 TB in one SSD! 🤯 This is simply incredible. Imagine how many games and data you can store. Although the price is steep, this is a great option for those who need a lot of space.
Hans
Yes, Olivia, the volume is impressive! But I'm more interested in speed. 7.2 GB/s read speed - that's lightning fast! Loading games will be instant. 🚀
Sophie
Hans, you're right about the speed. I'm also glad that Western Digital offers a 5-year warranty. This indicates the reliability of the product. By the way, has anyone used their SSD before?

I had a WD Black 2 TB, it worked like a charm. But 8 TB is something! 😍 I wonder how it copes with heating with such volumes of data?
Victor
Pfft, another fashionable gadget for those who like to throw money away. Why does an ordinary person need 8 TB? And these prices are astronomical. In my time, 500 GB was enough, and nothing was wrong, we lived normally.
Marta
Victor, times are changing! 🌍 Modern games and applications require more and more space. And for professionals working with video or 3D graphics, this volume is just a godsend!
Alexei
I agree with Marta. While this may be overkill for the average user, it is an excellent choice for enthusiasts and pros. The price is high, but compared to competitors it is quite adequate.

Have you noticed that the option with a radiator is only $50 more expensive? In my opinion, this is a small additional payment for better cooling and the ability to use in the PS5. I think many will choose this one. 🎮
