Over the last decade, the number of specialists in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning in Ukraine increased 5 times, reaching 5,200 professionals. The most common occupations are Data Scientists and ML Engineers, making up 63% of the industry's workforce and earning the highest salaries among IT jobs in the country. Young professionals aged 21 to 25 predominate.
Companies and startups
The number of IT companies in Ukraine has doubled over the past 10 years, and the number of companies specializing in artificial intelligence reached 243 in 2023. These companies have attracted more than $10.8 million in venture capital investments. Two Ukrainian AI companies, Grammarly and People.ai, have become unicorns since 2019, and the three largest startups are valued at more than $14.5 billion. Ukraine ranks second in the number of AI companies among Central and Eastern European countries, while over the past 4 years, 34 new startups have been registered in this area.
Specialization and geographical distribution
Compared to the rest of Europe, Ukraine has a higher concentration AI startups in the field of marketing, gaming and business software. 55% of the offices of Ukrainian AI companies are concentrated in Kyiv, where the largest talent pool is also concentrated - 47.5%. Since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, the number of defense tech startups using AI solutions has increased significantly.
