The US has banned Kaspersky Lab software and business: key operations are allowed until September 29
Due to allegations of cooperation with Russian intelligence services and a threat to US national security, Kaspersky anti-virus software is prohibited for sale and use in America.
Ban of Kaspersky
Reasons for the ban
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the US Department of Commerce announced the introduction of restrictions on the distribution and use of Kaspersky Lab antivirus products in the United States. The Russian software developer was included in the list of organizations collaborating with the military and intelligence agencies of the Russian Federation for the purposes of cyber espionage. According to US authorities, the company's activities pose a threat to national security due to the following factors:
- Jurisdiction and control by the Russian government
- Possibility of accessing confidential data of American users through administrative privileges
- Risk of introducing malicious code and blocking critical updates
- Integration of Kaspersky software into third-party programs
Restrictions for Kaspersky
In accordance with the ban, the American subsidiary Kaspersky Lab, Inc. will not be able to sell its antivirus products and cybersecurity services directly or indirectly to US citizens. The restrictions apply to branches, parent and subsidiary structures of the developer. In addition to stopping sales, Kaspersky will no longer be able to provide updates for software already in use.
Duration of the ban
To mitigate the impact on consumers and organizations using Kaspersky software, the company is allowed to temporarily continue some operations. In particular, until September 29, 2024, it is allowed to update antivirus signatures for already installed products. However, after this date, all activities of Kaspersky in the United States will be completely prohibited.
Background to the sanctions
Kaspersky's problems with the American authorities began in 2017, when the Ministry of Internal Affairs US security demanded to stop using the company's products in federal information systems. A year later, a similar ban was introduced by the National Defense Authorization Act. In 2022, the Federal Communications Commission added Kaspersky's solutions to its list of national security threats.

This kind of news upsets me 😔 I used Kaspersky antivirus for many years and was completely satisfied with it. I hope that I will find a worthy replacement.

Not surprising, given the current political differences between the United States and Russia. But I’m sorry that ordinary users were hit. 💻

In my opinion, this was expected. In a digital war, any product from Russia can be perceived as a potential threat. 🕵️♂️ We'll have to look for alternatives.

Bah, these political games again! 🙄 It would be better to focus on real cybersecurity problems, and not on bullying Russian companies.

Hmm, it always seemed to me that Kaspersky is one of the best antiviruses on the market. It is a pity that politics interferes in such matters. 😕 But safety comes first, you will have to look for alternatives.

Phew, these political games again! 🤬 Why do we need antiviruses at all if they only interfere with normal operation? It's better to stay away from all this.

I switched to free antivirus from Microsoft a long time ago and am quite satisfied. After all, this is more than enough for home use. 🏡💻
