Rakuten (owner of Viber) reported a decrease in the activity of telephone scammers and spammers in Ukraine during 2022-2023 due to improved security systems and threat recognition.

Reducing the activity of attackers
Last year, Rakuten Viber blocked 37 thousand accounts of telephone scammers and spammers in Ukraine, which is three times less than in 2022, when 130 thousand accounts were blocked. For the whole of 2023, about 60 thousand users reported telephone spam or scams, which is almost five times less than a year earlier. At the same time, about 450 thousand Ukrainians received calls from spammers or scammers during 2023 , which is 3.6 times less than in 2022.
Improved security tools
Rakuten Viber attributes the decrease in fraud activity on the platform to continuous improvements to internal tools , based on behavioral analytics and the use of artificial intelligence. In particular, Viber's antispam system recognizes and blocks fraudulent accounts based on various factors, including analysis of user behavior. In addition, last fall the Caller Identification feature appeared on Android, which warns users about a possible spammer or scammer when calling from an unknown number.
Privacy and data protection
Rakuten Viber reminds you that all chats and personal calls of messenger users are protected by end-to-end encryption. All available privacy and security features are collected in the "Settings -> Privacy" menu.
Problem perception survey
In a recent survey, Rakuten Viber reported that 56% of Ukrainians now do not pick up the phone when receiving calls from unknown numbers. The company proposes to conduct a quick survey among ITC.ua users about the effectiveness of countering scammers and spammers in Rakuten Viber.

To be honest, I don't really believe in the effectiveness of these systems. Fraudsters will still find loopholes. It is better to keep your ears open and not trust unfamiliar numbers. 👀

Personally, I have not encountered any problems with spam or fraud on Viber. Maybe I was just lucky, but I'm happy with the messenger's performance. 👍👍👍
