AltStore PAL: Legal App Store Replacement with Free iPhone Apps in EU
Residents of the European Union can now install the third-party app marketplace AltStore PAL on their iPhones, thanks to a new DMA law that forces Apple to allow alternative sources for downloading programs.
AltStore PAL
What is AltStore PAL?
AltStore PAL is an alternative iPhone app store officially operating in the European Union. It allows you to download third-party programs that have not been verified by the App Store on Apple devices. The marketplace launches with two free apps: the Nintendo Delta emulator and the Clip clipboard manager, which was previously banned from the App Store.
Apple costs and warnings
Subscription to AltStore PAL will cost users 1.50 euros per year plus tax. When you first install, Apple will display “screens of fear”—warnings that updates and purchases in this app will be managed by the developer. Critics say such measures could discourage users from venturing outside of Apple's ecosystem.
Decentralized distribution model
AltStore PAL is designed as a decentralized marketplace without a centralized application catalog. Developers will have to independently advertise their programs and direct users to their sites for installation through the AltStore. The marketplace is also integrated with Patreon for app monetization.

As an iOS old-timer, I'm skeptical about these innovations. Why do we need these third-party apps if the App Store offers everything we need? These are just unnecessary risks and headaches. 👎🙄

I'm a little concerned about the lack of a centralized directory in AltStore PAL. Will it be difficult to find quality apps among all this abundance? 😕
