New standards Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6E: problems and prospects for Ukraine
APITU insists on harmonizing the radio frequency spectrum for the operation of devices that support the new wireless standards Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, having addressed the Cabinet of Ministers with a corresponding request.
Introduction of Wi-Fi 7
High-speed wireless standard
At the beginning of this year, the final version of the advanced wireless communication standard was presented Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be). Following this, manufacturers began to announce their own solutions supporting this technology. However, apparently, Ukrainian consumers will have to wait some time for such devices to appear on store shelves.
Wi-Fi 7 features and capabilities
With Multi-Link Operation (MLO) ) in the Wi-Fi 7 standard, connections are distributed across three frequency bands (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz). Compared to Wi-Fi 6, the new standard doubles the bandwidth of networks, thereby ensuring faster operation and stable communication when connecting a large number of devices. Wi-Fi 7 technology provides data transfer speeds of approximately 40 Gbps, which is 4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6, due to a wider channel bandwidth of 320 MHz and 4096-QAM modulation compared to 160 MHz bandwidth and 1024-QAM modulation. QAM, inherent in Wi-Fi of previous versions.
Launch of devices with Wi-Fi 7
Manufacturers are expected to deliver devices with the new Wi-Fi 7 standard. We are talking about both manufacturers of network equipment and terminal devices (PCs, laptops, smartphones, tablets, etc.). However, issues of harmonization of the radio frequency spectrum have not yet been resolved in Ukraine. Therefore, legal import and operation of such devices in Ukraine will be impossible. Moreover, this problem applies not only to devices that support the latest Wi-Fi 7 standard, but also applies to models with the previous Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) standard.
APITU's appeal to the government
To resolve this annoying misunderstanding and speed up the process of normal use in In Ukraine, modern devices supporting advanced wireless communication standards, the Association of Information Technology Enterprises of Ukraine (APITU) appealed to the government. APITU asks the Cabinet of Ministers to harmonize the radio frequency spectrum for the operation of devices supporting Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7.
APITU asks the government to instruct the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the National Communications Regulatory Commission to develop and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers draft regulations to ensure the possibility import, production and operation of devices that comply with Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 standards, as well as develop and adopt the necessary regulatory documents within the powers of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the National Communications Regulatory Commission. APITU also asks the government to inform about the instructions provided and the time prospects for this regulatory settlement.

Why all these innovations?! 😒 In my youth, a regular modem worked great. These endless updates are just a way to scam people out of money! 💰
