Ukrainian Shield for Bradley: Revolutionary Drone Defense
Metinvest has developed and successfully tested innovative protection for M2 infantry fighting vehicles Bradley used by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The new system is designed to counter attacks by Russian drones.
Protection for Bradley
Successful tests
The Metinvest company has completed testing of a new protection system for M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles in service with the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The main goal of the development is to counter attacks by Russian unmanned aerial vehicles.
Innovative screen
According to Alexander Mironenko, operational director of Metinvest, successful tests of an innovative sliding screen for " Bradley." Now the metallurgical giant is starting to mass produce this protective armor. This project is being implemented as part of the Steel Front initiative, within which the company also created steel protective frames for M1 Abrams tanks and other military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The threat of drones
Mironenko emphasized that today drones pose the greatest danger to tanks and any other armored vehicles used by the Ukrainian army. FPV drones can immobilize a tank, turning it into an easy target for subsequent attacks. Shields developed for the M1 Abrams have already proven their effectiveness in combat conditions, protecting both crews and the vehicles themselves. It became obvious that the M2 Bradley fighting vehicles also needed increased protection, since they were also vulnerable to enemy drones.
Unique design
Developing protection for the M2 Bradley proved more challenging. It was necessary to create a special design for a mobile screen capable of moving back and forth from the top to the side of the vehicle, depending on the combat situation. The cost of each shield for Bradley is about $2 million.
Effectiveness in combat
American M1 Abrams and M2 Bradley combat vehicles are priority targets for Russian weapons. Bradleys have already proven their effectiveness in combat conditions, saving the lives of Ukrainian military personnel. Russian troops are wary of the M2 Bradley and try to avoid direct confrontations with them. According to Pentagon data cited by Newsweek, the United States provided Ukraine with 31 Abrams tanks and more than 300 Bradleys.

It's great that Metinvest has developed new protection for Bradley! 🛡️ These cars really save the lives of our guys at the front. I wonder how effective these screens are against drones?
Sophie
Yes, Liam, that's really impressive! I heard that these screens have already proven themselves well on Abrams. But $2 million for one shield? 😱 It seems a little expensive, although if it saves lives, then the price is justified.
Giovanni
Sophie, I agree, the price is high, but the technology is worth it. The sliding design is brilliant! 👍 Allows you to adapt to different situations. I wonder how quickly you can change the screen position?
Helga
What impresses me most is that our Ukrainian company was able to develop such complex protection! 🇺🇦 This shows how much we have advanced in technology. Giovanni, I think the change of position should be fairly quick, otherwise it would be impractical in combat.
Pierre
All this fuss with new technologies... Previously, we fought without any screens and nothing, we managed. And now every sneeze needs to be protected with millions of shields. A useless waste of money and time.
Isabella
Pierre, times change, and so does technology. These screens save lives! 🙏 Helga is right, this is a great achievement for Ukrainian industry. I wonder if they plan to export this technology to other countries?
Aleksander
Isabella, exporting is a great idea! 💡 This could bring additional funds for further development. By the way, does anyone know what material these screens are made of? There needs to be something super strong, but also lightweight.
Liam
Alexander, good question! I'm guessing it's some kind of composite material. It would be great to know more technical details. As for exports, this could be an excellent stimulus for our economy after the war. 💪🇺🇦
