TikTok is introducing an innovative humming song search feature, empowering users and competing with other music platforms. This technology allows you to find popular tracks and videos related to them, opening new horizons of interaction with content.

New melody recognition feature
TikTok is launching an innovative feature that will allow users to find songs by simply humming their melody. According to TechCrunch, the feature will also show popular videos that use the found song.
To use the new tool, users will be able to find the microphone icon in the search section. However, it's worth noting that this feature is currently only available in select regions, and the exact timing of its global launch remains unknown. According to preliminary data, this option is not yet available in Ukraine.
Efficiency and limitations of the function
Journalists who had the opportunity to test the new function note that its effectiveness largely depends on the popularity of the song. For example, the system recognized Rihanna's hit "Umbrella" quickly and without problems. However, less well-known compositions, such as Hilary Duff's "Fly", had difficulties - instead of a specific song, the system returned generic results with a similar name.
Interestingly, although TikTok positions this feature as a song discovery tool, it also does a good job of recognizing other sounds. For example, we managed to find the popular sound meme "Nobody's gonna know" and a video where it was used.
TikTok versus competitors
Sound elements are a key component of TikTok, defining trends and sometimes even helping artists reach the top of the music charts . Given this, the introduction of such a feature is a logical step to increase music discovery on the platform and compete with services such as Shazam and YouTube Music.
It is worth noting that the Chinese social network is not a pioneer in this field. Google has already integrated similar technology into its music service YouTube Music. Moreover, this function has been available in the Google search system since 2020, and since October of last year it also appeared in the YouTube application.

- Shazam - a mobile application for music recognition
- YouTube Music - a streaming music service from Google
- Rihanna is a world-famous singer and businesswoman from Barbados
- Hilary Duff is an American actress and singer

Wow, this humming song search feature on TikTok sounds cool! 🎵 Wonder if it will be as accurate as Shazam? I often use Shazam when I hear an interesting song in a cafe or shop.
Maria
Yes, Oleksandr! It's really interesting. I mostly use YouTube Music and the feature works pretty well there. But on TikTok, it can be even cooler, considering how many trending songs and sounds there are. 🔥
Pierre
I can already imagine humming all these funny sounds from TikTok! 😂 Do you think it will be able to recognize melodies without words?
Sofia
Pierre, that's a good question! It would be cool if the function could also recognize melodies without words. Imagine how many cool instrumental tracks you could find! 🎹🎸
Klaus
Oh, another useless feature. Why search for these songs at all? Before, they lived without it and nothing. Only time is wasted on these TikToks and other nonsense.
Oleksandr
Klaus, I understand your skepticism, but this feature could be very useful for many people. For example, for musicians or just music lovers who want to quickly find a song they liked. 🎶
Maria
I agree with Oleksandr. Plus, it can help promote lesser-known artists. Imagine someone heard a song, found it through TikTok and discovered a new artist! 🌟
Sofia
Exactly! And another plus - it can reduce the number of requests What song? in the comments under the video. Now everyone will be able to easily find a track that they liked. It's convenient, right? 😊
