Folding smartphone revolution: Huawei unveils triple-display gadget for $4,000+
Huawei is preparing to introduce an innovative three-screen foldable smartphone that could become the most expensive on the market , despite potentially lower performance compared to competitors.
The Foldable Device Revolution
Huawei Breakthrough
Huawei is set to revolutionize the foldable smartphone market by introducing the world's first device with three displays. This innovative gadget could be a real breakthrough, but its high cost, estimated to exceed $4,000, makes it out of reach for the masses. Interestingly, the price of the new smartphone may be twice as high as that of the Samsung Galaxy Fold6, while being inferior in performance.
Prototype testing
Recently, information appeared on the Internet that the head of Huawei Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu, was spotted with an unusual a device that folds in half from three parts. This observation confirms the existence of the prototype and indicates that the company is actively testing the new product in real conditions. However, nothing is known yet about the start of mass production.
Pricing
According to insider @jasonwill101 published on social network X, Huawei is making efforts to reduce the cost of the device. At the moment, the price of the engineering sample is about 35,000 yuan (approximately 4887 US dollars).
Currently, the cost of Huawei's tri-fold engineering prototype is over 35,000 RMB, and the company is continuously working on reducing costs. The anticipated retail price for the mass-produced model is set at 29,000 RMB($4000) pic.twitter.com/2JBvtx9IIN

Uniqueness and price
Even for a device with a unique form factor, this price seems excessive. According to rumors, the retail price could be reduced to 29,000 yuan (about $4,049), which is still more than double the price of the Samsung Galaxy Fold6. The high cost may be due to the limited edition, although this information has not yet been officially confirmed.
Technological Constraints
Huawei faces severe limitations in its processor production. The company cannot use TSMC's advanced technologies and is forced to rely on local partner SMIC, which results in the use of old-generation lithography to produce chipsets. At the moment, the Kirin 9010 chip seems to be the only possible option for this smartphone, but it is significantly inferior in performance to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 used in competing devices.

Wow, a three-screen smartphone from Huawei! 🤯 Sounds like something out of science fiction. I wonder how practical such a device would be in everyday life?
Hans
Isabella, I am also delighted with the innovation! 😃 But the price of $4000... is too much. Maybe in a couple of years the technology will become more accessible?
Sophie
I agree with Hans. The price is astronomical 💸 But I'm more concerned about the performance. If it's slower than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, why pay more?
Carlos
Guys, just imagine what opportunities the third screen opens up! 🖥️📱 You can work with several applications at the same time, this is a dream for multitasking!
Günther
What nonsense! Why is this monster with three screens needed? Just pull the pocket away and put the battery in. It would be better if Huawei focused on improving regular smartphones.
Lena
Carlos, you're right about multitasking! 👍 And Günther, don’t be such a pessimist. Technologies are developing, and who knows, maybe soon we will all be using such devices.
Pierre
I am surprised that Huawei decided to take such a step, given the sanctions and restrictions on chips. 🤔 This shows their desire to innovate no matter what!
Olena
Pierre, you're right. This is a bold move from Huawei. I wonder how Samsung and Apple will react? 🍎 Maybe this will encourage them to create something similar, but at a more affordable price? 💡
