Tesla is looking for people to train Optimus: $48 per hour for wearing a special suit
Tesla is expanding its team to develop its Optimus robot, hiring specialists to collect data using motion-capture suits. The project requires significant investment and resources to train the robot to perform a variety of tasks.

Development Team Expansion
Tesla Company is actively increasing its staff to work on the humanoid robot Optimus. Over the past year, dozens of new specialists have been hired to join the team, whose main task is to train the robot using special suits for motion capture, as reports Business Insider.
Requirements for candidates and working conditions
The position of “data collection operator” involves performing various tasks in a specialized suit and VR glasses for more than 7 hours daily. Candidates must match the height of the Optimus robot - from 170 to 180 cm. Previously, Elon Musk mentioned that the height of Optimus will be approximately 173 cm.
Employee responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data and preparing daily reports. Tesla offers full-time positions ranging from $25.25 to $48 per hour. Recruitment is being conducted for various shifts, including night shifts.
Robot learning process
Animesh Garg, principal investigator at Nvidia Research and professor of robotics at Georgia Tech, explains:
"The job involves collecting data by performing tasks while wearing a motion capture suit, which is recorded for subsequent analysis, as well as direct control of the humanoid robot."
Last year, Tesla released video footage showing an operator in a motion capture suit and haptic gloves lifting objects while a virtual model of the Optimus robot repeats the actions.
Scale and cost of the project
Garg estimates that training Optimus to work at Tesla production sites will require raising from several hundred thousand up to millions of hours of data.
“It could cost half a billion dollars, and even with such an investment, success is not guaranteed,” the expert adds.
While using motion capture suits to train robots is not new, Tesla is one of the first companies to use the technology at this scale to perform a wide range of common tasks.

Wow, I didn’t even know that Tesla was so serious about developing robots! I wonder how quickly Optimus can replace people in factories? 🤖
Maximilian
Isabella, I think this will take a lot more time. Collecting millions of hours of data is no joke. But imagine what a breakthrough this will be for robotics in general!
Anastasia
But it seems to me that $25-48 per hour for such work is not enough. Especially considering that you need to wear a suit and VR glasses for 7+ hours a day. It's very tiring! 😓
Pierre
Anastasia, I agree, but what an experience! Imagine being one of the first to participate in the creation of a real humanoid robot. In my opinion, it's worth any money! 🚀
Gunther
Some kind of nonsense. Why do we need these robots? They will only waste money and take away jobs. It would be better for Musk to do something useful, not toys.
Sophia
Gunther, don't be such a pessimist! Robots can take over dangerous and monotonous work, freeing up humans for more creative tasks. This is progress! 🌟
Maximilian
Sophia, I completely agree! In addition, the development of such technologies creates new jobs - Tesla is already recruiting a team. This opens up new opportunities for specialists.

Can you imagine how the world will change when robots become commonplace? Maybe in 10-20 years, every home will have its own Optimus, helping with housework. Sounds like science fiction! 😍
