Popular music streaming service Spotify is introducing a paywall for viewing song lyrics for free users, expanding restrictions on its free version.
New restrictions
Changes to the free version
In an attempt to attract more paying subscribers, Spotify is introducing new restrictions for free versions users of your service. You must now have a paid Spotify Premium subscription to access song lyrics as you listen.
User Reaction
This change caused a negative reaction from some Reddit users who expressed disappointment regarding the need to pay for a feature that was previously available for free. They fear that gradually increasing restrictions on the free version will render it virtually useless.
Previous restrictions
Spotify previously limited free users to six song skips per hour and forced playing tracks in random order. This turns the free version into a kind of radio with limited user control.
Competing with other services
Unlike Spotify, YouTube Music's free plan has no skip limits, includes lyrics, and lets you skip ads. Such benefits may entice some Spotify users to switch to competing services.

What a shame from Spotify! I've been on their free plan for years and now they want to remove the lyrics? This is simply outrageous! 😠

I agree, Ivan! It's very frustrating. I love reading lyrics while listening to music. Without them, half the fun is lost. Spotify clearly wants to make us pay for a subscription. 💰

Don't worry so much, guys. Spotify is a commercial company and they need to make money. If they want to make lyrics a paid feature, that's their right. After all, their service is still free. 🤷♂️

Peter, you're wrong! This is just the first step towards making most of the features paid for. Soon they might limit the number of times you can skip songs or force you to watch ads. We need to protest against such actions! 😡

This newfangled nonsense is infuriating! 🤬 In my time, people just bought records and listened to the music as it was, without any lyrics or other nonsense. Young people today are too spoiled by all these gadgets and applications.

I don't know about you, but I've already switched to YouTube Music. There are no restrictions on lyrics and skipping tracks in the free plan. In addition, advertising there is not so intrusive. 🙌
Кристина
Good idea, Olga! I'll probably switch to YouTube Music too. At least until Spotify comes to its senses and brings back lyrics for free users. 💻

I completely agree! Let's all boycott Spotify and move to other services that value their users. Maybe then they'll realize they've gone too far. 💪
