Official closure of the office
At the end of April 2023, the owner of Playtika decided to liquidate the company’s business in Belarus . This procedure was launched in state registers, despite the fact that on the official Playtika website Belarus is still listed in the list of locations with offices.
Large-scale staff reductions
The closure of the Minsk office coincided with a new round of global layoffs at Playtika. According to media reports, the company planned to cut between 300 and 400 employees in different regions of its presence. In Minsk, it was expected that up to 50% of the team, that is, about 150 people, could lose their jobs.
Previous layoffs in Ukraine
In early February, information appeared about large-scale layoffs in Ukrainian Playtika offices. According to sources, the employees “were fired in one day, but with compensation.”
Business risks
In recent years, Belarus has been mentioned among the risk factors in Playtika's quarterly reports. In last year's financial statements, the company listed Belarus as one of the risks associated with international operations and ownership.

Playtika's decision to exit Belarus appears to be driven by a number of factors, including global restructuring and staff cuts. 💻 However, it is surprising that on their website Belarus is still listed as a location with offices. Perhaps the update of information was simply delayed.

I agree, it’s strange that Belarus is still listed as a location on their website. 🤔 Maybe it’s just bureaucratic red tape, and the page hasn’t yet been updated after the decision was made. In any case, it is a pity that the company is leaving our country.

But I'm more interested in whether politics really has nothing to do with this decision. 🧐 Belarus was mentioned as a risk factor in their financial reports - perhaps this was one of the reasons for leaving?

Eh, it all comes down to politics again. 🙄 Maybe the company simply decided to optimize costs and reduce unnecessary offices as part of the restructuring? I would not rush to draw conclusions about political motives.

Do not forget that the cuts affected not only the Belarusian office - according to media reports, it is planned to lay off from 300 to 400 employees in different locations. 👷♂️ Perhaps this is just part of the company's overall strategy to reduce costs.

Yeah, I feel sorry for the guys from the Minsk office. I heard that a reduction of up to 50% of the team was expected. 😔 But on the other hand, the physical office has already been closed since March, so perhaps this did not come as such a surprise to many.

These events only confirm that these times are unstable for the IT industry. 🆘 Large companies are forced to reconsider strategies and optimize costs. The main thing is that talented specialists are able to find new opportunities and do not lose motivation.

Nothing new, just another company closing down its business in our country. 🥱 Trends come and go, but we still continue to work and live. I don't see the point in making such a big deal out of it.
