Samsung Electronics announced the start of mass production of V-NAND flash memory of the ninth generation, which provides a 33% performance increase compared to previous versions. TCL's 1Tbit V-NAND launches this month, with QLC variants arriving in the second half of 2024. Previously, information about the upcoming launch of production was confirmed by unofficial sources, who also mentioned that the new memory has more than 290 layers.

To meet the growing demand for NAND flash memory solutions, Samsung has expanded the boundaries of cell architecture and operating circuitry for its new product. With our latest V-NAND, Samsung will continue to set trends in the high-performance, high-capacity SSD market to meet the demands of future generations of artificial intelligence,” said Sung Hoi Hur, Head of Flash Products and Memory Technologies at Samsung Electronics.
Increased Density and Reliability
According to the company, the bit density of the ninth generation V-NAND is approximately 50% higher than the previous, eighth version. New technologies to prevent interference and extend cell life have improved memory quality and reliability, and the elimination of bogus holes in channels has significantly reduced cell area.
Samsung's channel hole etching technology creates electronic paths through mold stacking and maximizes manufacturing productivity by allowing the maximum amount of material to be processed simultaneously in the industry, the number of layers of cells in a double structure.
Improved Interface and Power Efficiency
The ninth generation V-NAND features a new NAND Toggle 5.1 flash interface that supports up to 33% faster I/O speeds 3.2 Gbps. Energy consumption has been improved by 10%.
