Updated hardware
Samsung has announced the latest version of its folding smartphone - the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The new product for 2024 has received a number of small but noticeable improvements. The device has become a little more reliable, lighter and has some technical improvements. However, it is worth noting that the price of the new model has increased compared to previous versions.
The heart of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 now beats with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, specially optimized for Samsung devices. To effectively cool the chipset, engineers increased the evaporation chamber. The smartphone is equipped with 12 GB of RAM, and the built-in storage capacity can be 256 GB, 512 GB or 1 TB. The battery capacity has remained unchanged since the release of the Fold 3 and is 4400 mAh.
Increased durability
Samsung engineers have worked on the durability of the device. Thanks to improved hinge design and the use of new materials, the smartphone has become more resistant to falls. The internal flexible glass also received additional protection. Galaxy Z Fold 6 has an IP48 rating. This is an improvement over the previous IPX8 rating, where X indicated no dust protection. Now the number 4 means that the device is officially protected against the penetration of foreign objects measuring 1 mm or more, although it is still not completely protected from dust.
Updated displays
Galaxy Z Fold 6 received a slightly larger external screen - 6.3 inches versus 6.2 inches for its predecessor. The display has become wider and has an aspect ratio of 22.1:9. Its resolution is 2376x968 pixels and the refresh rate reaches 120 Hz. The size of the internal screen when unfolded remains the same - 7.6 inches. However, it is also wider and closer to a square shape, with an aspect ratio of 20.9:18 and a resolution of 2160x1856 pixels. Both displays peak at an impressive 2600 nits.
Cameras and dimensions
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 cameras have undergone minimal changes compared to the previous model. Users have access to a 50-megapixel main module and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The updated 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera now offers improved low-light performance.
Samsung managed to make the new Galaxy Z Fold 6 thinner. The dimensions of the device when folded are 68.1 × 153.5 × 12.1 mm, and when unfolded - 132.6 × 153.5 × 5.6 mm. The weight of the smartphone has decreased from 253 g for Fold 5 to 239 g.
Artificial Intelligence and Software
Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature Galaxy AI features, a first for the lineup Galaxy S24 earlier this year. A unique benefit of Samsung's new foldable devices is the ability to display translations on the external screen. The S Pen on Fold 6 will also be able to integrate with Galaxy AI features through Smart Select and Sketch to image, which use generative AI to create images from simple sketches. Like the S24 series devices, the new product will receive operating system and security updates for 7 years.
Pricing and Availability
Samsung will begin selling the Galaxy Z Fold 6 on July 24, with pre-orders available today. The starting price is $1,899 (UAH 79,999 in Ukraine), which is $100 more than the cost of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 (as well as Fold 4 and Fold 3).

Wow, Samsung surprises again! 🤩 Galaxy Z Fold 6 looks impressive. Particularly pleasing is the improved dust protection and durability. I wonder how it will perform in real use?
Sophie
Yes, Luca, IP48 protection is a step forward. But I'm more intrigued by the new processor and 12 GB of RAM. I think the performance will be great! 💪 Although the price is biting...
Hans
Sophie, you're right about the price. But what opportunities! I was impressed by the translation feature on the external screen. This is really useful for traveling. Would you buy one like this?
Isabella
Guys, have you noticed that the battery remains the same? 4400 mAh is not enough for such a powerful device, in my opinion. 🤔 Although, maybe optimization will save the situation?
Viktor
Pfft, another useless gadget for showing off. Folding screen? Seriously? It would be better if they made a normal phone with a good battery and camera. All these bells and whistles are an extra headache and expense.
Sophie
Hans, to be honest, I would have thought so. I love new technologies, but you need to weigh the pros and cons. Isabella raises a good point about the battery. Galaxy AI sounds tempting though! 😊
Luca
Viktor, I understand your skepticism, but technology does not stand still. Foldable smartphones open up new possibilities. For example, a larger screen is convenient for work and entertainment. It's worth giving innovation a chance! 😉
Isabella
I agree with Luca! 👍 Innovation drives progress. By the way, I was interested in the new ultra-wide-angle camera. I wonder how noticeable the improvement is when shooting in the dark? Has anyone already tested it?
