Unbelievable! Elon Musk's company Neuralink received permission to implant a chip in a second patient
Elon Musk's company Neuralink received permission from the US regulator to implant a neurocomputer interface in a second patient, despite problems during the first operation.
Authorization for new use
First-stage difficulties
US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ) agreed to implant the Neuralink neurointerface in the next patient after the company proposed a solution to a problem that arose during the first procedure. In January, after the chip was implanted in Noland Arbo's brain, some of the electrodes began to push out of the tissue due to stronger than expected movements of the patient's brain.
Modifications to improve
Neuralink plans to implant electrodes 8 mm deeper into the motor cortex , instead of 3-5 mm, to hold them more firmly. Engineers also optimized signal decoding by focusing on the strongest clusters of neurons and turning off weak channels.
Future plans
The company hopes to conduct the second operation as early as June 2024. Neuralink plans to implant its device in ten people this year to study different behavior patterns. Also, the corporation intends to start similar tests in Canada and Great Britain in the near future.
Glossary
- Neuralink is Elon Musk's company that develops neurocomputer interfaces for connecting the brain with electronic devices.
- FDA (Food and Drug Administration) - the US Food and Drug Administration, a regulatory body.
- Noland Arbo is the first patient in whom Neuralink implanted its neurointerface.

This is really exciting news! 🤖🧠 Neurotechnology and chip implantation open up new opportunities for people with paralysis. Although there are certain risks, progress is proceeding at a rapid pace.

I wonder how the Neuralink chip can improve the quality of life of paralyzed people? 🤔 Will he be able to help them regain full control of their bodies?

On the one hand, it is a breakthrough in neuroscience and assistive technology. 🔬 But the issue of data confidentiality and ethical norms when working with the human brain worries me. I hope Neuralink will look into this carefully.

It's like some science fiction movie! 🤖 Imagine if the Neuralink chip could not only help people with disabilities, but also improve the cognitive abilities of healthy people. A real revolution!

I don't think that this technology will be available to everyone. 💰 Implantation of a chip in the brain is a complex and expensive procedure. But for people with severe injuries, it can be a lifesaver.

I'm more concerned about the possible risks and side effects. 😬 What if the chip fails or is broken? This can have catastrophic consequences for the patient's health.

These fashionable things for young people are nonsense! 😠 Instead of experimenting with the brain, it would be better to focus on improving living conditions for people with disabilities. This Musk wants to cash in on the hype again.
