A new era for iOS apps: Apple opens the door to third-party sites in the EU
Apple has made significant changes to its iOS app distribution policy, allowing programs to be offered to EU users directly from developer websites, subject to certain conditions.
Direct app downloads
Apple innovations
Previously, Apple strictly adhered to a centralized model of app distribution through its own App Store, controlling revenue developers and charging a commission. However, under the new EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), the company is forced to review its policies. Developers who meet Apple's criteria will now be able to offer apps for direct download from websites to users in the European Union.
Requirements for developers
To implement this feature, developers must meet a number of conditions. In addition to notarizing apps, you must be in good standing, agree to Apple's right to handle intellectual property disputes and government takedown requests, and provide customer service because Apple will not provide support for third-party apps.
Fees and warnings
Apple will introduce a new "core technology fee" of 0 .50 euros for the first annual installation after 1 million downloads per year, regardless of distribution source. Third-party downloads of apps will warn users that updates and purchases are managed by the developer, not Apple. This move is seen by critics as an attempt to discourage users from leaving the App Store ecosystem.
Other innovations
At the same time, developers will have the opportunity to inform users about better offers outside of the App Store. Thus, Apple is forced to weaken its monopoly on the distribution of iOS applications in response to the requirements of EU antitrust laws.

Yes, this is truly a significant event. But I'm worried about the new technology fee they're introducing 🤔 This could be a limitation for many developers.

I'm glad we'll now have more choice of apps on iOS 🥳 It's just a shame that we'll have to go through notarization, which can make the process more difficult for indie developers.

Guys, what do you think about “fear screens”? Will they discourage users from installing third-party applications? 🤨 I think Apple is still trying to maintain control.

Ha, old Jobs must be rolling over in his grave! 😆 I remember how he fiercely defended the closed iOS ecosystem. But times are changing, monopolies are no longer in fashion.

I think this is a serious blow to Apple's business model 💸 But overall, competition is good, it forces companies to improve and keep up with the times.

It seems to me that Apple was simply forced to make these concessions due to antitrust laws 👩⚖️ Let's hope that this will lead to a more open and competitive environment in the mobile application market.

To be honest, I'm a little skeptical about this news 🤨 Apple has always been famous for its closed ecosystem and security. I'm afraid that third-party applications may violate this security.

Guys, don't you think this is just a marketing ploy by Apple? 🤔 They pretend to open up the ecosystem, but in reality they still maintain tight control.

I can't wait to download apps directly from the developers! 😍 Tired of waiting for Apple to approve them in the App Store. This will expand our capabilities as users.
