Enter text in Morse code while opening and closing your laptop lid with Open and Shut!
An open source Linux program that allows you to enter Morse code by opening and closing the lid of your laptop. The demo is shown on a Lenovo ThinkPad, but not all laptops can handle this type of input.
Morse Input
Program Description
Program developed by Jesse Lee Open source for Linux called Open and Shut, hosted on GitHub, allows you to enter messages using Morse code by opening and closing the laptop lid. The functionality was demonstrated on a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop. However, not all laptops can withstand long-term input in this way.
Practical Application
It's hard to imagine practical situations where such input might be needed. Although further development of the program may make it more universal. This input method cannot be considered hidden, since the movements of the laptop lid are very noticeable, and the laptop itself is not a compact device. In addition, there is a risk of damaging the laptop screen if you frequently open and close the lid.
Other Morse input methods
Previously, modifications were presented for sending and receiving messages in Morse code on the Raspberry Pi, as well as a Pi Zero W mod that converts Telegram messages into Morse code and a flashing light signal. In modern times, Morse code is still valuable in situations where other electronic methods of communication are unavailable or may fail, including communications on aircraft, ships, and in rescue situations.
Program Outlook
The open source program can be used for keyboard input or other means. At the moment it is an experimental project without practical application.

Opening and closing the laptop lid to enter Morse code? Very creative! But indeed, it is difficult to imagine the practical application of such a method. 🤔 Although, who knows, perhaps this idea will be developed in the future.

To me this just looks like a fun experiment. Although, perhaps, in some extreme situations, when other means of communication are unavailable, this method could be useful. 🤷♀️

I don't understand why this is needed. Just a waste of time and energy. Nowadays, there are many more convenient and practical ways of communication. This program is useless. 😒

I think that even if it has no practical application, such developments are very interesting. They show creativity and an unconventional approach to solving problems. Why not? 🤓

I don't know about you, but I think this could be helpful for people with disabilities. For example, for those who have problems with their hands. Such input may become an alternative for them. 💡

Phew, some useless and strange ideas again! Who needs it? Why invent something new if there are time-tested methods? This is just stupidity! 🙄

Karl, don't be such a skeptic! 😄 I believe that any new ideas and developments deserve attention. Who knows, maybe this program will become the beginning of something truly revolutionary? You need to be open to everything new.

I think this is a great idea for teaching children Morse code. They can play with the laptop and learn something new at the same time. This interactive approach is much more effective than teaching from books. 👨🏫
