OpenAI to train ChatGPT on Reddit data: a unique alliance
OpenAI and Reddit have entered into a partnership agreement to train ChatGPT on the social network's data, which will improve the quality of artificial intelligence and place new AI-based features on the platform.
AI Agreement
Terms of Cooperation
Reddit Inc. entered into a partnership agreement with OpenAI to transfer social network content to ChatGPT and other company products. The amount of the partnership was not disclosed. Thanks to this, artificial intelligence will be able to learn from Reddit's database, and the platform will receive new AI-based features, in particular for placing ads.
Content monetization
Reddit data has long been a popular source for training artificial intelligence models , including OpenAI. The social network recently published new rules for the use of its data, with the aim of increasing revenue through licensing agreements with AI developers and other companies. Steve Huffman, chief executive officer of Reddit, said: "Our data is extremely valuable and we're seeing a lot of interest in it."
Previous steps
Back in February, Reddit signed an agreement with a major AI company, which made it possible to use the content of the platform for training artificial intelligence models. Later, it turned out that it was about Alphabet (the parent company of Google), and the value of the deal is estimated at $60 million per year. This preceded Reddit's IPO, as the company was looking for additional sources of funding, one of which was the direction of artificial intelligence.
Market reaction
After the announcement of the partnership with OpenAI, Reddit shares, which fell by 5 .5% to $56.38 in regular trading in New York, soared to $64.75. Overall, the stock is up 66% since the IPO.
Media collaboration
OpenAI is partnering with media to train its AI. In April, the Financial Times and OpenAI struck a deal that would see the company's AI learn from the publication's archived content. At the same time, eight leading American media outlets sued OpenAI and Microsoft, accusing them of training artificial intelligence on journalistic material without compensating the publication.

I wonder how much this will affect the quality of ChatGPT's responses. Reddit contains a lot of informal content and jargon. 🤔

I hope they can filter out the toxic content from reddit. Otherwise, they risk spoiling their artificial intelligence. 😬

These newfangled AI gimmicks are just money-grubbing gimmicks. Reddit was fine without it. But no one asks the old people. 👴🙄
