Netflix is ending support for legacy Apple devices, requiring an update to iOS 17 to continue using the service. This decision will affect owners of older iPhone and iPad models.
Netflix update
New requirements for Apple users
Fans of cinema and series may face an unpleasant surprise if they use outdated models of iPhone or iPad. The popular streaming service Netflix will soon stop supporting its platform for Apple gadgets that cannot be updated to iOS 17, reports resource 9to5mac.
User warnings
In a recent update to the Netflix app, users received a notification that support for iOS 16 has ended. The notification contained the following information: “Netflix has been updated! iOS 17 or later must be installed to use the latest version."
Transition period
At the moment, owners of iOS 16 devices are still able to view content on the platform, but the app will simply stop working after that. It is important to note that app updates not only add new features, but also fix bugs and improve security.
Affected Devices
Owners of the following Apple models will not be able to update to iOS 17 and will therefore lose access to Netflix : iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPad 5 (2017) and first generation iPad Pro.
Previous changes
It is worth noting that Netflix has already announced about ending support for some older Apple TV models. As of July 31, the company stopped supporting Apple TV of the second and third generations.
Future Apple Innovations
It is worth reminding that Apple is already starting to implement the recently introduced iOS 18 operating system Apple Intelligence. It is interesting that the company's artificial intelligence will also not be available for all iPhones - it will be supported only by the Pro versions of the iPhone 15 and the recently announced iPhone 16 line.

Wow, Netflix is ending support for older iPhones and iPads? This is bad news for owners of these devices. 😕 I wonder how many people will be affected by this?
Sophia
Yes, Oleksandr, it is really unpleasant. But on the other hand, it is an incentive to update your gadget. I recently purchased an iPhone 14 and now feel more confident about future upgrades. 📱✨
Pierre
Sophia, you are right. But not everyone can afford new models. Perhaps Netflix should consider supporting older iOS versions for longer. 🤔 What do you think?
Maria
Pierre, I agree with you. Although I understand Netflix - supporting old versions costs money. But maybe they could offer some alternatives? For example, a special version of the application for older devices with limited functionality? 🧠💡
Hans
Phew, another trick to get money out of people. Why these constant updates anyway? My old phone works great and I see no reason to change it. Netflix just wants us to spend more. 😒
Isabella
Hans, I understand your frustration. But technology does not stand still. New features and improved security are important. Maybe it is worth considering budget options of newer models? Or alternative streaming services that still support older devices? 🤗📺
Oleksandr
Isabella is right. BTW, does anyone know how long other streaming services plan to support older devices? Are there any Netflix alternatives for older iPhone owners? 🧐
Sophia
Oleksandr, good question! I've heard that Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video still support older versions of iOS. But who knows how long it will last. Maybe it's a good time to consider an upgrade or look for alternative ways of viewing, such as through Smart TVs or game consoles? 🎮📺
