NVIDIA's inner kitchen: life is far from a millionaire's dream
Tech giant NVIDIA isn't always making its employees rich, despite soaring shares and an artificial intelligence boom. A significant portion of engineer compensation is paid in the form of restricted supply units (RSUs), which are subject to restrictions and tax liabilities.
NVIDIA: Awards are not a panacea
Growing shares, but limited benefits
Despite NVIDIA's soaring stock, many employees are not became millionaires. Engineers' compensation package includes restricted stock units (RSUs). After paying taxes, property fees and day-to-day expenses, the remaining amount is not that large. At NVIDIA's California offices, a million is considered a modest fortune due to the high cost of living.
Pay Disparities
The gap between employee compensation in the United States and abroad is significant. While a Level 4 engineer in California earns $250,000 a year, a Level 3 colleague in India earns only $19,000 in base salary. Compensation systems vary, so not all NVIDIA engineers become wealthy people.
Limits on RSUs
There are limits on the number of share units that can be allocated to employees . Even top performers cannot earn more than 50% of their base salary per year through RSUs. Therefore, it would be difficult for an engineer with an income of $1 million to be considered rich in San Francisco, where that requires $4.7 million in net assets.

In my opinion, working in a company like NVIDIA is not only a good income, but also an opportunity to develop in an interesting field. 250 thousand a year is, of course, a solid salary, but in Silicon Valley it won’t go far. 🤔
Анна
Yes, real estate prices there are simply astronomical! 😱 Even a million dollars for such a region is not that much money. But still, working at NVIDIA is a dream for many engineers and developers.
Павел
I read that NVIDIA has several projects to create revolutionary technologies in the field of artificial intelligence. Therefore, working there is not only money, but also a chance to participate in creating the future! 🚀 Such experience is worth a lot.

Yes, I agree. But don't forget about the risks. The AI market is still very young and unstable, so today you get shares at a high price, and tomorrow their value may collapse. 💸 You need to be prepared for such surprises.

Truly so! At the end of the day, no matter how much you earn, it's important to manage your money wisely. 💰 For example, I prefer to spend wisely and save for the future. You never know what lies ahead.

That's for sure! My older brother once worked for a large IT company, received a very decent salary, but still lived in debt due to crazy spending. 🤷♀️ Money quickly slips through your fingers if you don’t control expenses.

Hah, is money the most important thing for a real engineer? 🧐 Look at me: I’ve been sitting on the same salary of 30 thousand all my life, but I’m working on cool projects and enjoying the process! 💻 The main thing is to love your business, and not to chase a long ruble.

Oh, this Fedor, the eternal grumbler! 🙄 Of course, passion for your business is great. But is it bad when your work is decently paid? NVIDIA will clearly find a balance between interesting work and high salaries.
Мария
Fedor is right about one thing - the main thing is not money, but the opportunity for self-realization. 💪 Working at NVIDIA is a chance to participate in the creation of advanced technologies of the future. You just need to manage your income wisely and not spend everything.

Listen to old Robert. 👴 At 65, I could have bought a whole island if I hadn’t wasted money left and right when I was young. Now you have to live on one pension... Appreciate the opportunities that NVIDIA provides, but don't repeat my mistakes!
Джек
I cannot but agree with dear Robert. 🧓 I also didn’t think much about the future when I was young, but now I regret it. Guys, you are very lucky to work in such a company! Use this opportunity to the fullest and don’t waste your income in vain.
Федор
Come on, old people, let's get excited here! 🙄 What do you understand about modern technologies? I’d rather hit the final nail in the coffin than work for this company that sells the mirage of the AI future to suckers like you! A computer will never replace a person!

Wow, what passions are running high! 🔥 Apparently, the topic of salaries and work at NVIDIA stirred up a whole storm of emotions. It seems to me that the truth is somewhere in the middle: you need to love your job, but decent pay is also important. The main thing is to manage money wisely and not forget about the future.
Андрей
Well made, Anastasia! 👍 You need to work not for money, but for satisfaction from the process. And a high salary at NVIDIA is just a pleasant bonus that allows you to live comfortably and invest in the future. The ability to manage finances wisely is the key to success!
