Expansion of Ukrainian production and investment plans: interview with Oleksandr Sobolenko, co-founder and CEO of Releaf Paper
Focus on the Ukrainian market: why now?
Releaf Paper as a technology and company was born in Ukraine. Our first customers and founders were here. Although we were forced to turn our attention to other markets because of the war, Ukraine has always been important to us. We see the potential and demand for ecological products in the Ukrainian market, so we decided to return and expand our commercial activities.
Expansion of Ukrainian capacities: investment and plans
We plan to produce our products at Ukrainian contractors enterprises. Currently, our investments are directed towards marketing and personnel. We are creating a team that will be able to quickly respond to the needs of consumers. Vitaly Godzula, the former head of Lenovo, will structure commercial activities.
Our products will be available to customers through our online store and other online shopping platforms. We also work with large and medium-sized retail chains, for which we have created a separate B2B sales department. In 2024, we plan to start a raw material production project in Ukraine using green waste. The investment for this project will be €500,000, and if we expand, up to €5 million.
Investment plans and the search for a unicorn
Our cooperation with a strategic partner (investment fund of the European Commission) consists of grant and investment components. We intend to raise €16 million in the next investment round in 2025. In this round, our strategic partner will provide 50% of the investment, and we will withdraw the second 50% from third-party investors. We are currently negotiating with specialized European funds and are actively working on attracting investments. Our company already has a valuation of more than €20 million and is not interested in investing less than six zeros.
