Intel Mobile Processors in Desktops: Erying Breaks Boundaries with New Motherboards
Erying has introduced a new series of MoDT HX motherboards compatible with the powerful 13th Gen Intel Core HX series mobile processors, including the 24-core i9-13980HX, designed for desktop PCs.
HX Boards
Platform Description
Erying, specialist in integrating mobile processors into desktop systems, released the MoDT HX platform to leverage high-performance Intel Raptor Lake HX series chips in desktop computers. The company has developed special Micro-ATX motherboards, cooling systems and mounting systems for installing mobile CPUs, offering kits for specific processor models.
Intel HX Processors
Designed for gaming laptops, the Intel HX line is one of the most productive mobile architectures. Raptor Lake chips of the Core 14 and 13 generations contain up to 24 cores and 32 threads. Erying releases its platforms after previous generation processors become more affordable. The new series is focused on Core 13 chips.
Board characteristics
MoDT HX motherboards have Micro-ATX form factor (244 x 244 mm) and are equipped with a 10-phase power supply. They have two PCIe 4.0 slots (one x16 and one x4), three M.2 interfaces (two PCIe Gen4x4 and one PCIe Gen3x4), as well as four memory slots with support for XMP overclocking profiles up to 5600 MHz.
Cooling System
Erying has developed a special integrated IHS heat spreader and vapor chamber design to effectively cool mobile BGA processors, since laptop manufacturers do not install IHS on such CPUs.
Ports and connections
The I/O panel has two HDMI connectors, one DisplayPort supporting 4K resolution at 240 Hz, four USB 3.2 5 Gbps ports s, two USB 2.0, one USB Type-C 10 Gbps, as well as a 2.5 Gbps LAN port and a wireless module.
Performance
According to Erying, the Intel Core i9-13980HX processor installed in their system with a 360 mm liquid cooler operates at frequencies of only 0.2 GHz lower than the desktop i9-13900K, but still consumes only 55 W average and 150 W peak.
