The head of Tesla and SpaceX believes that Full-fledged artificial general intelligence (AGI), capable of surpassing the smartest person, will appear as early as 2024 or at most by 2026. According to Musk, the development of AI is hampered by limited energy resources, but this problem will be solved in the next year or two.
Training AI models
Musk said that training the next version of the xAI Grok chatbot will require about 20,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, and for Grok 3 and subsequent models - at least 100,000 such chips. The shortage of advanced processors is currently the main limiting factor in AI development.
Conflict with OpenAI
Elon Musk, who previously advocated suspending the development of powerful neurogenerative models, created his own AI startup xAI and sued OpenAI and its director Sam Altman. The reason was the company’s abandonment of its original mission – developing AI for the benefit of humanity, and not for profit.
Competition with Chinese automakers
Musk acknowledged that Chinese automakers such as BYD are serious competitors for Tesla and pose the biggest challenges for the company. He previously ridiculed BYD cars, but later changed his mind.
The situation at Tesla
Speaking about the union strike in Sweden against Tesla, Musk expressed the opinion that "the storm has passed on this front." A spokesman for the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund, Tesla's largest shareholder, said the fund had met with the company's chief executive and received an update on the situation.
