New M4 chip for Mac Studio and Mac Pro: expectations and realities
Apple won't upgrade its Mac Studio and Mac Pro computers to M4 chips until at least mid-2024, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported. Instead, these devices will be equipped with M2 chips this year, while the rest of the systems will receive newer and more powerful components, with the exception of the MacBook Air.
iPad Pro supremacy
Computers behind
All Apple laptops except MacBook Air expected to be available by 2024 , will switch to the M4 chip, which was recently introduced along with the new iPad Pro tablet. As a result of this strange update cycle, within about a year the iPad Pro will lead the single-threaded performance of all Apple devices, even ahead of the Mac Studio and Mac Pro.
Significant lag
New iPad Pro with M4 chip outperforms M2, according to Geekbench benchmarks Ultra is about 25% faster in terms of single-threaded performance. In fact, even the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro delivers comparable single-threaded performance to the M2 Ultra. However, in multi-threaded tasks, the M2 Ultra provides significantly better results thanks to more compute units. However, this advantage does not apply to Mac Studio with M1 Max, which shows slightly lower multi-threaded performance than the new iPad Pro.

Yes, this is truly an impressive pace of development. However, I'm confused by the fact that the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro reportedly won't get the M4 upgrade until at least the middle of next year. 😕 Speed is of the essence these days!

I agree, the delay in updates is quite strange. Although, Apple may want to focus on optimizing software for the new chips before releasing them on more powerful systems. 💻 Either way, it will be interesting to see how they handle this situation.

Have you noticed that even the A17 Pro chip in the new iPhone 15 Pro is expected to have single-core performance on par with the M2 Ultra? 😲 This is a truly impressive indicator for a mobile processor. Apple doesn't seem to be slowing down.

Ah, these new technologies... 🙄 Why do ordinary users need such huge computing power? I'm getting along just fine with my old computer. These constant updates are just a marketing gimmick to get people to buy new hardware every year.

Sophie is absolutely right! 👍 For example, I'm working on a machine learning project, and every time a new, more powerful system comes out, it significantly speeds up data processing and model training. So I'm looking forward to the M4 Mac!
