LinkedIn is preparing for a revolution: gaming on the platform
LinkedIn plans to introduce games to its network
LinkedIn, the social platform known for its opportunities for professional communication, learning and job search, intends to add a gaming element to its services. The move aims to increase the amount of time users spend on the platform, TechCrunch reported.
Currently, LinkedIn has more than 1 billion users. The company plans to capitalize on the popularity of puzzle games that have captured the attention of a wide audience of games like Wordle and attract millions of players. They named the first three projects Queens, Inference and Crossclimb.
A LinkedIn representative confirmed that the company is working on the implementation of the games, but has not yet specified a launch date.
“We plan to add puzzles to our platform to provide users with a way to have fun, connect with each other, and stimulate interesting conversations,” a LinkedIn spokesperson told TechCrunch . "Stay tuned!"
The representative also noted that the images posted on the X network are not the final versions.
Context
LinkedIn, owned by Microsoft, is a major player in the gaming industry. The company's gaming segment, which includes Xbox, Activision Blizzard and ZeniMax, generated $7.1 billion in revenue last quarter, surpassing Windows revenue for the first time in years.
Puzzle games are one of the most popular categories among mobile users. So many platforms that don't target gamers use them to drive traffic, a trend that was popular even before the birth of the Internet, particularly in newspapers and magazines, where puzzles and crosswords have long been a popular pastime for readers.
For example, the famous newspaper The New York Times acquired the game Wordle in 2022. To this day, it brings pleasure to millions of players and became part of the online platform for puzzles and games developed by the newspaper.
Other companies that have tried to win in the gaming market have had mixed results. Facebook, the largest social network in the world, has been a leader in social gaming for many years. However, in 2022 it shut down its separate gaming platform due to declining user activity. Currently, the company is focused on the development of the field of mixed reality and the product Meta Quest.

I hope that the games will not drag users away from the main purpose of the network. You need to balance entertainment with productivity.

Puzzle games can be an interesting innovation, but it is important not to lose sight of the main focus of the platform. Everything should be within reasonable limits.

This is a risky but interesting move for LinkedIn. The main thing is to maintain a balance between professionalism and entertainment.💼🎮

It's a silly fad. A professional network does not require any games. Time is wasted.🙄
