When will new laptops with RTX 50xx from NVIDIA and processors from Intel and AMD be released - leaked plans for the next 2 years
The documents reveal plans from NVIDIA, Intel and AMD to launch innovative mobile graphics cards and laptop processors in the coming years.
New GPUs
NVIDIA RTX 50xx graphics cards
NVIDIA plans to release a new series of mobile RTX 50xx graphics cards in 2025, known codenamed GN22. It will be represented by six models: X11, X9, X7, X6, X4 and X2, from the most productive to the most budget-friendly. The line will be divided into two groups of chips that are incompatible in terms of contacts: GB203 and GB205, as well as GB206 and GB207.
The company will continue to produce the RTX 4050, RTX 3050 and RTX 2050 graphics cards, but the latter will be replaced by the RTX 3050 with 4 GB of memory. The RTX 50xx series will not have a 6GB model, but will instead feature three 8GB variants, two 16GB variants and one 12GB variant. All of them will use GDDR7 memory. The maximum TGP is also expected to be reduced for some models.
Production of the new graphics cards will begin in January 2025 for the GN22 Board 1 and in March 2025 for the GN22 Board 2.
Next-generation Intel processors
Intel plans to transition its high-end HX series to the Arrow Lake-HX processor family with 8 high-performance Lion Cove cores and 16 power-efficient Skymon cores. These chips will be similar to the desktop Arrow Lake-S and are expected in the fourth quarter of 2024 - the first quarter of 2025 with a TDP of 55 W. Arrow Lake-HX Refresh will be released later with new specifications and improved AI performance.
Mass Arrow Lake-H and Arrow Lake-U chips will arrive around CES 2025, with the Arrow Lake-H Refresh to follow in 2-3 blocks. These processors will have a TDP of 28-45W, while Arrow Lake-U is 15W. They will be compatible with Meteor Lake, and Panther Lake will switch to a new pin layout.
The Panther Lake-H and Panther Lake-U lineup will bring additional benefits and will launch around CES 2026, first for desktops and then for laptops. Intel's Lunar Lake "Core Ultra 200V" line of chips for thin and light laptops with a 17W TDP will arrive in the second half of this year, starting in the third quarter.
Next-generation AMD processors
In 2025, AMD will release top-end Fire Range processors based on the Zen 5 architecture with 16 cores, including X3D variants with 3D V-Cache. The Strix Halo chips will have 16 Zen 5 cores and 45-50 TOPS, while the Strix Point family (officially Ryzen AI 300) will have 12 cores and 50 TOPS. Krackan Point processors will retain 50 TOPS, but only 8 cores.
Strix Point chips will go on sale in July 2024 and until 2025. They will be compatible with FP8 (LPDDR), Strix Halo with FP11 (LPDDR5), and Fire Range with FL1 (DDR5).
