Chinese rocket Tianlong-3 accidentally launched: an unexpected turn in the space race
An unexpected incident during the testing of a private Chinese Tianlong-3 rocket led to its unplanned launch and subsequent explosion in the mountains. Despite the dramatic nature of the situation, there were no casualties.
Tianlong-3 Challenge
Unexpected Start
Last Sunday, Beijing-based Space Pioneer conducted fire tests of the first stage of its private Tianlong-3 rocket. The event took place in Gunyi, a city with a population of about 800 thousand residents, located in the central part of Henan province. However, during the launch of the engines, a failure occurred in the mounting mechanism on the launch pad, which led to the sudden takeoff of the rocket.
Short flight and spectacular finish
Tianlong-3's unscheduled flight lasted approximately 50 seconds. As a result, the rocket landed near the launch site in a mountainous area. The completion of the flight was accompanied by a spectacular explosion, which was recorded on video by several eyewitnesses.
Official comments
Representatives of the emergency service of Henan Province reported that no one was injured as a result of the incident. In turn, Space Pioneer explained the incident as a “structural malfunction” in the connection between the rocket stage and the test stand. However, they emphasized that the on-board computer of Tianlong-3 automatically turned off the engines after detecting anomalous activity, after which the rocket exploded when falling in the mountains.
Prospects for Tianlong-3
Space Pioneer has already successfully launched the Tianlong-2 rocket into orbit, becoming China's first private spacecraft with such an achievement. Tianlong-3 is being developed as a reusable rocket inspired by SpaceX's Falcon 9, according to SpaceNews. The new rocket is expected to be able to deliver up to 17 tons of payload into low-Earth orbit, significantly exceeding the capabilities of its predecessor, which was limited to 2 tons.
Impact of the incident on development
Although Tianlong-3 is still in the development stage, Sunday's incident is likely to bring changes into the schedule for testing and potential launch of the rocket.

Wow! Chinese private space company Space Pioneer conducted unsuccessful tests of the Tianlong-3 rocket. It's good that no one was hurt. I wonder how this will affect their launch plans? 🚀🤔
Hans
Yes, Isabella, this is a truly impressive incident. While this may delay their plans, I think such setbacks are part of the development process. SpaceX also faced similar problems early on. The main thing is that they learn from mistakes and move forward. 💪
Amélie
I agree with Hans. This shows how complex the space industry is. I am impressed that private companies in China are also actively developing this area. Competition can lead to interesting innovations! 🌠
Javier
It's amazing that the rocket flew for 50 seconds! I can imagine what a surprise it was for the Space Pioneer team. I wonder how this will affect their reputation and funding? 🤑
Viktor
Ha, another trick from these newfangled startups. Previously, states explored space, and everything was reliable. And now everyone can launch a rocket from their own garden. They'll finish the game like this...
Isabella
Viktor, I understand your concern, but private companies make a great contribution to the development of the space industry. They are often more flexible and innovative. Look at SpaceX's success! 👨🚀
Hans
Isabella is right. In addition, competition between private companies and government agencies can accelerate progress. Tianlong-3 is planned to be reusable, like Falcon 9. This is a huge step forward for China! 🇨🇳🚀
Amélie
I totally agree! And let's not forget that even with such an unsuccessful test, the safety systems worked. This shows that they take risks seriously. I'm sure Space Pioneer will learn from this and make Tianlong-3 even better! 💪🔧
