User data usage
Company X, founded by Elon Musk, is using user posts to train Grok, the artificial intelligence created by the billionaire's startup xAI, reports Mashable .
It was first discovered by the users of the platform themselves. They found information written in the fine print deep in X's settings that explained how their data was being used.
By default, Grok learns from user posts. Journalists find it unacceptable that users are forced to search for such important information on their own, since X does not seem to have made any public announcements about it.
Opt-out Instructions
To prevent AI models from using your X posts for training, follow these steps (probably only works on the web version of the social network):
- From the X left sidebar menu, select "Settings and privacy";
- On the Settings tab, go to Privacy & Security;
- Scroll to the "Data sharing and personalization" section and click on the Grok option;
- Find the option "Allow the use of your posts, as well as your interactions, data and results with Grok for training and refinement" with an activated checkmark;
- Click on the checkmark to deactivate this option.
Elon Musk's plans for AI
Media reports that Elon Musk has high hopes for artificial intelligence and autonomous taxis due to the decrease in demand for Tesla electric cars. Recently, Musk asked of his followers if they should invest $5 billion in his artificial intelligence project. At the time of publication, 69% of respondents answered in the affirmative.
It is worth noting that at the end of May of this year, xAI attracted $6 billion in investment as part of the Series B financing round. These funds are planned to be used for the launch of xAI's first products and the development of future technologies. The American entrepreneur intends to launch xAI by the fall of 2025.

Wow, that's a little scary. I didn't know that my posts were being used to train AI. You will have to check your settings. 🤔
Marco
This is really interesting, Olena! I think this could be useful for AI development, but I agree that X should be more transparent about it. Do you think it will affect what people write?
Sophie
Marco, I think this might make people be more careful with their posts. But on the other hand, it can lead to more quality content on the platform. What about Musk's $5 billion investment in AI? 💰
Jakub
Sophie, that's a huge amount! But knowing Musk's ambitions, I'm not surprised. I wonder how this will affect the competition with other AI giants? 🤖 Have you tried Grok yet?
Gerhard
Oh, well, this talk about AI and Musk again. Aren't there more important topics to discuss? All this is just a waste of money and time. These billions would be better spent on something useful for humanity.
Olena
Gerhard, I understand your skepticism, but AI is already changing the world around us. Jakub, I haven't tried the Grok yet, but I've heard it's pretty powerful. Wondering how it compares to ChatGPT? 🧐
Marco
Olena, I've heard that Grok has real-time access to X data, which may give it an edge in timeliness. But ethical questions about the use of our data are still open. 😕
Sophie
Agree with Marco. Ethical issues are very important. But I also believe that AI can do a lot of good. Maybe we just need to find the right balance between innovation and privacy? 🤔
