Unusual machine in Japan
In Japan and other countries of the Far East, vending machines are very popular toys. They usually sell small plastic figurines after depositing cash and pressing a lever. However, one vending machine in Japan sells completely unusual products - Intel processors of previous generations.
Buying an Intel processor for $3.25
Japanese video blogger Sawara-San decided to try this an unusual machine and deposited 500 yen (about $3.25) into it. After pressing the lever, he was given an Intel Core i7-8700 processor. Then the blogger checked the performance of the chip, and it turned out that it was functioning, albeit with some problems.
Location and purpose of the machine
The machine with Intel processors is located near or inside a computer parts store 1's PC. It can serve as a form of entertainment for store visitors and a way to get rid of old or faulty processors.
Testing the purchased chip
After the purchase, Sawara-san tested the operation of the Intel Core i7-8700. During the initial boot, the system detected all 6 cores and 12 threads, but later problems arose - the video card stopped working normally and Windows could not be installed. After reconnecting the monitor, it turned out that only 5 cores and 10 processor threads were functioning. Despite this, the chip was able to run Windows and pass the Cinebench R15 and R23 tests, but with slightly lower results.

It's cool that in Japan they sell Intel Core i7-8700 processors in vending machines. This is a very interesting idea and it's great that users can get something really useful for little money. 💯

Yes, this is a great idea for recycling old components! Instead of just throwing them away, they give them a second life through vending machines. Very creative and environmentally friendly. 💚

Although the i7-8700 is no longer the newest processor, for $3 it’s just a bomb! Even with a small problem with one core, this chip is still very capable for many tasks. 💻🔥

Eh, it’s a pity that there are no such machines in our area! I would love to try my luck and buy a processor for ridiculous money. Maybe the perfect specimen would have been found. 🤞

But I’m wondering what other components these machines might have besides Intel processors? Maybe you can find video cards, RAM or hard drives there. It would be cool! 🤔

Hmm, this idea of vending machines for selling old processors seems stupid to me. Why buy outdated items with unknown problems when you can buy new components with a warranty? 🙄 This is wasted money.

Nikolai, you're just an old grump! 😆 This is an interesting idea for collectors or those who want to try used components for little money. Of course there is a risk of malfunction, but for $3 it's worth it!

And I remember how 10 years ago I bought an old Core 2 Duo in a transitional state from Avito. After cleaning and replacing the thermal paste, it served me for several more years! So even with problems, such processors can be useful. 💻👍

Curious how the performance of processors in such a machine is checked? It is unlikely that he has the opportunity to conduct normal testing like Prime95. Or do they simply select the ones that look the most intact?

I wouldn't risk blindly buying a used processor from a vending machine. It’s better to pay extra and buy a normal new one, with a manufacturer’s warranty. Otherwise, fussing with repairs won’t be enough later. 🤷♀️

It’s cool that one of the machines even included an i7-8700! I would not refuse such a processor, it is still very productive. I remember when I upgraded to it in 2018 from an i5-6600, the difference was huge. 🚀

The Japanese are so creative, only they could come up with the idea of selling used processors in vending machines! 😁 And apparently it’s popular. Perhaps this is a new trend?

Wow, I didn’t even expect that in Japan they came up with such an original way of selling old components! 🤯 It’s immediately clear that they love all sorts of crazy ideas and experiments.

A very interesting life hack for computer enthusiasts and freebie lovers! 😄 I would also take a risk and try to win a processor in such a machine. Maybe I'll have better luck than that blogger!
