New AI chips from Intel and Google: Revolutionary steps in the era of artificial intelligence
Tech giants Intel and Google unveiled new developments in the field of artificial intelligence, trying to increase their competitiveness in the market for high-performance AI chips, which is currently dominated by Nvidia.
New AI processors
Intel's Gaudi 3 chip
Intel has introduced an updated Gaudi 3 accelerator chip designed for training of artificial intelligence systems and processing of relevant data. This chip, the release of which is scheduled for the third quarter of 2024, is positioned as a powerful alternative to Nvidia products that currently dominate the market.
According to the manufacturer, Gaudi 3 will have higher performance and energy efficiency compared to the popular H100 chip from Nvidia. In particular, it will be able to train certain AI models 1.7 times faster, and intelligent software will run on it 1.5 times more efficiently.
Intel claims that their solutions will be significantly cheaper than similar Nvidia products and will have a favorable total cost of ownership due to lower operating costs.
Google announcement: Axion and TPU v5p
Google also joined the race for leadership in the field of AI, presenting the new Axion CPU and TPU v5p chip. Both of these products are designed for use in the Google Cloud cloud platform and should increase its competitiveness compared to other cloud service providers.
The Axion chip, created on the basis of Arm technologies, according to the manufacturer, provides 30% higher performance than publicly available chips, and 50% higher than modern Intel and AMD solutions.
As for the TPU v5p, it is Google's new tensor processor unit, designed to work in clusters of 8960 chips and capable of providing twice the performance in AI tasks compared to the previous generation.

Ha, all these new chips and technologies are interesting nonsense. In my opinion, it is better to rely on something proven by time and not get involved in fashionable things. Let them prove their worth first, and then you can think about using them. 🤷 ♂️
