Elon Musk criticizes Blade Runner 2049, but uses it to present Tesla
Elon Musk used images from the movie "Blade Runner 2049" to present a self-driving Tesla taxi, which led to legal action lawsuit from Alcon Entertainment. Despite criticism of the film, Musk acknowledged its influence on his vision of the future.
Conflict with the film industry
Legal proceedings
Alcon Entertainment recently initiated a lawsuit against Elon Musk, Tesla and Warner Bros. Discovery. The reason was the unlawful use of visual elements from the movie “Blade Runner 2049” during the demonstration of the Tesla autonomous taxi. Reacting to news of the lawsuit, Musk left a brief comment on the social network X (formerly Twitter): “This movie is a complete failure.”
Conflicting statements
It is curious that during the presentation Elon Musk expressed admiration for the work of director Denis Villeneuve, although he emphasized that his vision of the future is different. According to the entrepreneur, the only element of the dystopia that he liked was the coat of the main character.
Alcon Entertainment's position
Representatives of Alcon Entertainment stated that they do not want to be associated with Tesla, X or other Musk enterprises. The reason for this was the “excessively politicized and unpredictable behavior, sometimes bordering on hate speech,” demonstrated by the entrepreneur.

Wow, Musk called Blade Runner 2049 crap? But I was so amazed at the presentation. I wonder what made him change his mind? 🤔

I think this is just a reaction to the lawsuit. Musk does this often - criticizes those who criticize him. And the movie is great, with a rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes!

I agree with Hans! The film is amazing. Visually it is simply a masterpiece. And the idea of how thin the line is between humans and artificial intelligence is very relevant, especially now.
Carlos
Musk was probably offended by the lawsuit. But using someone else's intellectual property without permission is not cool. Although I understand why he chose this particular film to present a driverless taxi 🚕

Ha! Typical Musk. First he uses images from the movie, then he calls it crap. I wonder what he will say next? Maybe he will declare that he will make a better film himself? 😂
Olaf
All this hype about movies and sayings is a waste of time. It would be better to deal with real problems, and not discuss who said what about some movie. Musk, not Musk - what's the difference?
Sophia
Olaf, but this shows how technology influences culture and vice versa. Isn't it interesting to watch this interaction? Especially when it comes to such influential figures as Musk.

But it seems to me that Musk is just playing to the audience. He knows how to attract attention to his projects. And now everyone is discussing his words about the film, and at the same time about the new unmanned Tesla taxi. Smart move! 🧠💡
