Innovative Design
GPD has announced the release of a unique pocket device, Pocket 4, the first of its kind based on the AMD Ryzen AI 300 Strix processor. A distinctive feature of the new product is its modular design, allowing users to customize the gadget to suit their individual needs.
Impressive display
Pocket 4 features an 8.8-inch LTPS screen with a 2.5K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. The display covers 97% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and has a brightness of 500 nits. The touchscreen can rotate 180 degrees, turning the device into a tablet, making it a versatile laptop-tablet hybrid.
Powerful filling
At the heart of Pocket 4 is the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU hybrid processor. This chip includes 12 computing cores based on the Zen 5 architecture, 16 cores of integrated RDNA 3.5 graphics and an NPU neural unit with a performance of 50 TOPS. The processor has a configurable TDP from 20 to 28 W. The device can be equipped with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5-7500 RAM, with 16 GB reserved for integrated Radeon 890M graphics. The M.2 2280 drive is available in capacities up to 4 TB.
Performance and Features
GPD says the Pocket 4 is comparable in performance to the Ryzen 9 7950X desktop processors in single-core tasks and the Ryzen 9 5950X in multi-core tasks. The Radeon 890M graphics core is compared with the discrete Intel Arc 140V. Although the device is not marketed as a gaming device, it is capable of providing a "smooth gaming experience."
Functionality and interfaces
Pocket 4 is equipped with a physical keyboard and a compact touchpad instead of a built-in gamepad. The cooling system is represented by a cooler with one fan. The battery has a capacity of 44.8 Wh. The set of ports includes USB4, HDMI 2.1, USB 3.2 Gen2 (Type-A and Type-C), USB 2.0 Type-A and LAN 2.5 Gbps.
Modularity and expandability
One of the key features of Pocket 4 is its modular connector. Users can replace the rear port with a variety of modules, including RS-232, KVM, and additional USB ports. An SD card slot and the ability to install an LTE modem are also available.
