The Google Chrome mobile browser for Android has a new Listen to this page feature that can read web page content, supporting playback controls and voice and language settings.
Voiceover function
Features and interface
Google Chrome for Android implements the Listen to this page functionality, which allows the program to read out aloud the contents of an open web page. The user is provided with playback control tools similar to those found in music or podcast players. You can pause the voiceover, adjust the reading speed, and rewind the audio stream forward or backward in 10-second increments. In addition, settings for the voice used to read the text and the playback language are available.
Supported languages
Listen to this page currently supports multiple audio languages web page text, including Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Ease of use
Previously, you had to use Google Assistant to read a web page and switch from the Chrome browser to the corresponding application. The new Listen to this page feature allows the user to remain in the browser without having to switch between applications.
Activation and Deployment
To activate the Listen to this page feature, the user needs to open a web page with a lot of text, then bring up the three-dot menu and select the corresponding item that should be displayed under the "Translate" option. At the moment, the new feature has not yet been deployed everywhere and is gradually becoming available to users. According to sources, it is already present in version 125 of the Chrome browser for Android. Google has also tested this feature on the desktop version of Chrome.

It's great that Google is adding this feature to the browser! Now you can listen to articles and content on the go without being distracted by reading. 👍

Yes, a very convenient thing. Especially for those who often travel on the road or are busy with other things. You can continue listening to the text without interrupting other tasks. 🎧

I like that they added the ability to adjust the reading speed. Sometimes you want to speed it up in order to quickly skim through the text. And for complex materials you can slow it down. Very flexible. ⚡

Support for different languages is also a cool feature. I often read articles in French, so this feature is very useful to me. 🇫🇷

I wish they would add more voices to choose from. Sometimes the boring monotonous voice gets tiring after listening for a long time. Diversity of voices would be great. 🗣️

I don't see much point in this. Why listen when you can just read? This is a waste of time and energy. 👎 *sits in the corner, grumbling*

I don't agree with you, Michal. Sometimes it is very useful to listen to the text when your hands are busy or your eyes are tired from reading. It's convenient and gives you more options. 💻📖

By the way, I heard that Google is working on improving the quality of synthesized speech. Voices will sound even more natural and pleasant. 🔊
