Turn Windows XP into a target for malware from Russia: Eric Parker's experiment
An unprotected Windows XP operating system connected to the Internet was susceptible to malware intrusion, turning the computer into a "zombie" in just a few minutes.
Infected Zombie
Infection Begins
Video blogger Eric Parker decided to conduct an experiment to find out how quickly malware could penetrate an unsupported Windows XP operating system left unprotected on the Internet. He created a virtual machine with a clean installation of Windows XP, without a firewall or antivirus software, and simply connected it to the network.
Lightning infection
10 minutes after connecting, Parker discovered the conhoz process in the task manager. exe, a well-known Trojan. He closed the process, but just a few minutes later a new user with administrator rights and a number of additional processes appeared on the computer, including an FTP server.
Turning into a "zombie"
Parker traced the connection of the malware to Russian servers. He suggested that the attackers intended to create a botnet or server for sending spam on the infected computer. Further analysis revealed even more malicious code, including additional Trojans, backdoors and adware. A total of eight malicious programs were discovered, turning the computer into a full-fledged “zombie”.
The importance of security
The experiment clearly demonstrates how important security measures and timely software updates are. In modern realities, it is not enough to just be careful. Even the built-in firewall in Windows XP does not guarantee protection, since the operating system does not receive updates for many years.
Glossary
- Windows XP - operating system from Microsoft, released in 2001
- Trojan - malicious program masquerading as legitimate software

Wow, what a nightmare! 🙀 Just 10 minutes, and the PC is already a zombie machine. This proves that security is not something to joke about. The experiment clearly showed the risks of outdated systems.

Agree. Timely software updates are basic hygiene in IT. 💻Ancient systems are a tasty morsel for attackers. A reliable antivirus and firewall are also a must.

Oh, these old OS! 👴 Every time the same circus. Stay away from them if you don't want problems. In the meantime, XP is still around, and soon there will be complaints about Windows 7.

All these viruses, trojans and backdoors are scary! 😨 But it seems to me that people themselves are to blame if they neglect safety. With a reasonable approach, Windows XP can be used without problems.

Ha! 🧓 What a reasonable approach on an outdated platform without patches. It's like walking through a minefield. Sooner or later you will blow yourself up!

You are right, updates are extremely important. 💯 But let's not forget about the human factor! Many people fall for phishing scams, download malicious files, etc. Security is a set of measures.

I don’t want to scare anyone, but remember the Petya virus? 😰 He used a backdoor in an old version of Windows to encrypt data and extort money. This is a real threat!
