Will eSports become an Olympic discipline: a story from the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine
Ukrainian eSports: from local clubs to recognition as an Olympic movement, intertwined with future development trends.
The future of the industry
Recognition in Ukraine
Over the years, eSports in Ukraine, it has gone from local gamer competitions to official recognition as a full-fledged sport. The presence of structured competitions according to clear rules, where the abilities of participants to win over opponents on equal terms are compared, distinguishes eSports from the usual playing of computer games.
After meeting the requirements according to Ukrainian legislation, such as the availability of qualified personnel, conducting competitions in most territories and the existence of an international federation cooperating with the World Anti-Doping Agency, eSports was recognized as an official sport in Ukraine in September 2020.
The role of the Ministry of Youth Sports
At the same time, the powers of the Ministry of Youth Sports of Ukraine are limited only to promoting the development of recognized sports through the international federation, not including professional tournaments of private operators Thus, most of the eSports industry continues to develop autonomously, based on professional competitions.
In this design, any eSports federation effectively acts as another tournament organizer , holding competitions according to the rules established by the game developers.
The Olympic Movement and Future Trends
The eSports industry is currently undergoing significant changes due to its integration into the Olympic Movement. The International Olympic Committee recognized the growing popularity of eSports and began to introduce its disciplines into the program of its events.
Observing this trend, classical sports federations have started to launch electronic sections of their discipline This means that trends in eSports will now be set not only by game developers, but also by the IOC and sports federations, setting their own rules and competition formats.
Many developer collaborations with international sports federations are expected in the near future, which opens new horizons for the development of the industry.

I'm not so sure that eSports is suitable for the Olympics. 🤔 First, it does not require physical activity, like most Olympic sports. Secondly, it is difficult to ensure equal conditions for all participants due to different equipment and Internet connections.

Cybersport is a new trend that has captivated the younger generation. 🕹️ I would love to see him in the Olympics to bring the sport to an even bigger audience. Although for this, it will probably be necessary to make some changes to the rules and formats of the competition.

Interesting question... I'm not sure eSports fits the spirit of the Olympics. 🤨 Cyber-athletes spend most of their time at the computer, while Olympic athletes must be physically developed and durable. But of course, this is just my opinion.

To be honest, I am skeptical that eSports will become an Olympic discipline. 😒 In my opinion, these are just computer games that do not require real sports skills and physical training. And doesn't this contradict the Olympic values and ideals?

I wouldn't mind seeing eSports at the Olympics! 🎌 It would bring a breath of fresh air to traditional competitions and attract more young viewers. Of course, this will require solving some issues related to a level playing field for all participants, but I think it is possible.
