Revolutionizing the Tech World: Cable Matters Releases First Thunderbolt 5 Cable
Cable Matters' revolutionary Thunderbolt 5 cable usheres in a new era of high-speed data transmission, delivering unprecedented bandwidth and charging power to today's devices.
Connectivity Breakthrough
First of its kind
A year after Thunderbolt 5 was officially announced, Cable Matters has introduced the world's first cable to support this cutting-edge standard. The new product offers an impressive video throughput of 120 Gbps and is available in three lengths: 30 cm, 50 cm and 1 m, priced at $23, $27 and $33 respectively.
Versatility and Power
Thunderbolt 5 offers a single performance standard, making the cable compatible with all technology capabilities. It supports power delivery up to 240W and is backward compatible with Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 Type-C, USB4 and USB Type-C ports. In high-bandwidth mode, the cable provides video transmission speeds of up to 120 Gbps, and in normal mode, bidirectional speeds of up to 80 Gbps.
Technological innovation
Thunderbolt 5 is based on the USB4 version 2.0 standard, complemented by a unique bandwidth enhancement mode. This feature overcomes USB4 V2.0's 80Gbps limitation, reaching an incredible 120Gbps for displays. This result is achieved by redistributing data transmission bands, which is especially important for high-performance monitors.
New horizons of visualization
With increased bandwidth, Thunderbolt 5 opens up new possibilities for gamers and video professionals. The technology supports multiple displays at 8K resolution, as well as refresh rates of up to 540Hz for 4K or 120Hz for 8K. This is 50% superior to DisplayPort 2.1, setting a new standard for picture quality.
Advances in Storage
Thunderbolt 5 also takes advantage of PCIe Gen 4, delivering up to 64 Gbps for PCIe . This is especially important for external graphics adapters, docking stations and modern SSDs, opening new horizons of performance for professional users.
Looking forward to the future
Although Cable Matters has pioneered Thunderbolt 5 cables, there is currently limited availability number of devices that officially support the new standard. The top-end Razer Blade 18 is one of the few that's already Thunderbolt 5 ready, with peripherals from Belkin, J5Create, OWC, and Sabren unveiled at CES 2024 expected to hit the market soon. Hyper also announced a $400 Thunderbolt 5 dock, but it's not yet available for purchase.
