Boston Dynamics has unveiled a new electric humanoid robot, Atlas, which will replace the hydraulic previous model, and which will be more powerful, stronger and more agile, capable of performing a variety of difficult and dangerous tasks.

Transition to an electric system
Boston Dynamics abandoned the production of the hydraulic humanoid Atlas and presented an all-electric version with similar name. According to their blog, the previous hydraulic model was already capable of lifting and maneuvering a variety of heavy, irregularly shaped objects. However, the new electric version promises to be even more powerful, stronger and more agile.
Human-likeness and surpassing human capabilities
Although the developers emphasize the anthropomorphism of the new robot, it will have a wider range of motion that will surpass human physical capabilities. This is evidenced by the video, where Atlas is raised from the floor in a way that is not characteristic of humans.
Commercial assignment and testing
Boston Dynamics is positioning the new Atlas as a commercial project, but so far does not disclose all its characteristics and cost. Trial operation of humanoids will begin at the plant of the automaker Hyundai, which acquired a controlling stake in the company in 2021 for $1.1 billion.
