In the Poltava region, preparations have begun for a vote on the issue of banning the popular Telegram messenger. This information became available to the public during the broadcast of a meeting of the commission of deputies dealing with regulations.
Causes of concern
During a discussion of the topic “On the ban on the use of Telegram,” one of the people’s representatives shared his experience when he had to register in this application to access the State Agrarian Register. This caused outrage among those present, as there is an opinion that Telegram servers are located in St. Petersburg, which could potentially lead to data leakage to the Russian Federation.
Unanimous decision
Based on the recommendations of the Ukrainian special services, members of the commission unanimously supported a ban on Telegram in the Poltava region. The next stage will be consideration of this issue at a session of the Poltava Regional Council.
National restrictions
It is worth noting that since last month in Ukraine there has been a ban on the use of Telegram on the work devices of government employees and military personnel. In addition, the use of the messenger at critical infrastructure facilities is limited due to a potential threat to national security.
Position of security forces
The Security Service of Ukraine and the General Staff warn that the Russian side is actively using Telegram to carry out cyber attacks, distribute malware, locating users and coordinating missile strikes.

I work in the IT field and I can say that the problem is real. Telegram is indeed vulnerable to attacks. But a complete ban is too much. We need to educate people about digital hygiene and safety. 💻🔒
