ARM introduced Cortex-X925, A725, A520 and new graphics: Immortalis-G925, Mali-G725 and Mali-G625
ARM introduced the latest ARMv9 processor cores and integrated graphics processors, designed to deliver significant performance and power efficiency gains to the next generation of mobile devices.
New ARMv9 processors
Cortex-X925, Cortex-A725 and Cortex-A520 cores
This year, ARM is focused on improving the ARMv9.2 architecture introduced last year. The latest processor cores are upgraded to the advanced 3nm process technology, which should provide improved performance, power efficiency and scalability. ARM's latest developments are aimed not only at Android-based mobile devices, but also at laptops running Windows.
The flagship core is the Cortex-X925, designed to become a new performance standard for mobile chips. Its architecture is optimized to achieve higher clock speeds and better power balance, delivering more computing power per watt of power consumption. This was achieved through a number of architectural innovations, including enhanced execution pipelines, improved branch prediction, and improved out-of-order instruction execution capabilities. As a result of these improvements, Cortex-X925 cores are capable of processing more instructions per cycle and operating at frequencies up to 3.8 GHz.
According to ARM, the new cores demonstrate significant performance gains in both single-threaded and multi-threaded tasks, making them ideal for a wide range of applications. The company claims Cortex-X925 leadership in single-threaded testing and superiority over Intel and AMD solutions. In addition to performance, ARM promises longer battery life thanks to energy efficiency, improved thermal management, enhanced security, and faster tasks using artificial intelligence. New KleidiAI libraries are presented for developers.
Cortex-A725 core provides up to 35% performance increase
Cortex-A725 is positioned as an updated version of the Cortex-A720 with a 35% increase in performance and 25% energy efficiency %. It is expected that it will become the basis for creating balanced mid-range mobile processors.
Updated energy-efficient Cortex-A520 core
Along with the powerful Cortex-X925 and Cortex- A725, ARM introduced an update to the energy-efficient Cortex-A520 core. The modernization provides a 15% increase in energy efficiency and a transition to a 3-nm process technology. The new processor cores will be accompanied by powerful graphics solutions, starting with the Immortalis-G925.
Immortalis-G925, Mali-G725 and Mali-G625 GPUs
New integrated ARM GPUs are designed for a wide range of consumer devices, from flagship and low-cost smartphones to smartwatches and other gadgets. The top solution is the Immortalis-G925 with ten or more cores, aimed at high-performance devices such as flagship smartphones. The Mali-G725, scalable from 6 to 9 cores, is aimed at premium mobile devices and offers the same API support as the older model, but is optimized for a lower price segment. Mali-G625 with 1-5 cores is designed for use in smartwatches and budget smartphones.
The new GPUs are the second iteration of ARM's 5th generation of integrated graphics, which debuted in 2023. Compared to last year's Immortalis-G720, the flagship G925 should deliver 37% more frames per second in games along with 30% power savings. ARM claims a 49% performance boost in Genshin Impact, +49% in Roblox, and 20% to 72% in other games.
To cope with the growing geometric complexity of games, the Immortalis-G925 has a new fragment prepass mechanism. It eliminates the need for games to sort objects or primitives and reduces the number of updates when processing geometry workloads, reducing rendering cycles by 43%.
Immortalis-G925 also improves ray tracing performance by up to 52% on complex objects. What's more, developers can slightly reduce the transparency precision of game scenes to get up to a 52% performance boost along with a 57% reduction in memory usage. In the new generation, the number of shader cores has been increased by 50%, making the top configuration of the Immortalis-G925 24 cores versus 16 in the previous generation. ARM has also placed significant emphasis on improving task processing using artificial intelligence.
