Apple and the Gambling Regulatory Commission of Ukraine have joined forces to fight against illegal online casinos, blocking 50 applications in the Ukrainian AppStore. It is part of a wider government campaign to curb online gambling.

Joint actions of the regulator and Apple
As part of the fight against the illegal gambling business in Ukraine, the Gambling and Lottery Regulatory Commission in cooperation with the Apple company took decisive measures. The result was the blocking of 50 applications of illegal casinos and bookmakers in the Ukrainian AppStore, as reported in the commission's official Telegram channel.
Government initiatives to limit online gambling
At the beginning of June, the Ministry of Digital Transformation appealed to the technological giants Apple and Google with a request to remove the programs of unlicensed online casinos operating in Ukraine from their application stores. This appeal became part of a large-scale government campaign aimed at regulating the field of gambling on the Internet.
Presidential decree and its consequences
On April 20, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, signed Decree No. 234/2024, which implements the decision of the NSDC on countering the negative impact of online gambling. The document provides for a number of restrictions, in particular: the prohibition of online gambling establishment advertising, the blocking of illegal gambling web resources, as well as the restriction of servicemen's access to gambling establishments and online games.
Legislative initiatives and changes in regulation
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is actively working on a draft law on fighting gaming addiction. Prior to the entry into force of this law, the restrictions established by the Presidential Decree will apply. In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted a decision on a complete ban on online casino advertising on the Internet, making changes to the previous resolution of May 17.
Reorganization of regulatory bodies
On April 4, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy voted to liquidate the Regulatory Commission gambling and lotteries. It is planned to transfer its functions to the Ministry of Digital Transformation. On April 24, the Verkhovna Rada approved the corresponding draft law in the first reading.
Public initiative
It is worth noting that on March 29, a petition "Limiting the operation of online casinos" appeared on the website of the President's Office , created by Pavlo Petrichenko, a soldier of the 59th Brigade. This initiative demonstrates public demand for regulation of the gambling business in Ukraine.
