iOS 18 will get major updates to core apps including Mail, Photos, Fitness, Notes and Calculator, as well as new features for Siri, messaging on Android and Apple Maps.
iOS 18 Update
App Improvements
The upcoming iOS 18 update will bring significant improvements to a number of core apps. The email client will receive a new interface and additional features. The Photos app will offer advanced photo editing and organization tools. Fitness will feature enhanced activity tracking and health management features. Notes will become more flexible with support for mathematical equations and voice reminders. In addition, Apple will finally release the Calculator app for iPad, providing it with useful additional features.
Artificial intelligence integration
One of the key innovations of iOS 18 will be deeper integration of artificial intelligence into the system. Siri will get new generative capabilities based on Apple's language model. Similar AI features will be implemented in Spotlight Search, Teams, Apple Music, Messages, and office apps like Keynote, Numbers, and Pages. It is expected that the artificial intelligence assistant will appear in the Safari browser.
Improvements for Android users
With iOS 18, Apple is finally implementing support for the cross-platform sharing standard RCS messages. Thanks to this, messaging between iPhone and Android devices will become more convenient: it will be possible to send high-resolution photos and videos, audio messages, typing indicators and read receipts.
New maps and navigation features
The updated Maps app will offer custom routes that let you select specific roads to travel, as well as topographic maps showing paths, contour lines, heights and attractions for hiking and active recreation.
Interface changes
iOS 18 brings changes to Home screen settings, including the ability to freely place app icons on the desktop. Additionally, the Freeform app will be adding a "Scenes" option for easy canvas navigation.

Yes, Ivan, Siri's new features do seem promising. However, I am a little concerned about the privacy and security issues associated with using large language models on a device. 🤔

I'm looking forward to the updated Calculator app for iPad! This is one of the features that has been missing from Apple tablets for a long time. The sidebar with calculation history and the improved interface will be very useful in your work. 👩💻

Well, I think most of these innovations are pretty unnecessary. Why all these new Siri and calculator features when the current versions work just fine? 😒 Developers waste time and resources on pointless updates.
