Analysis of the smartphone market
Supply dynamics
According to the analytical company IDC, in January-March 2024 there was an increase in global smartphone shipments by 7.8%, reaching 289.4 million units. The leader among manufacturers was Samsung with a market share of 20.8%, ahead of Apple.
Apple's position
iPhone shipments fell 10% in the first quarter due to increased competition from Android device manufacturers. Apple's market share currently stands at 17.3%. The company shipped 50.1 million iPhones, which is less than last year for the same period – 55.4 million units. In addition, in China, iPhone shipments in the last quarter of 2023 fell by 2.1% compared to the previous year, which is associated with a ban on the use of Apple smartphones by government employees.
Successes of Samsung and Xiaomi
Samsung, which released the flagship Galaxy S24 line at the beginning of the year, shipped more than 60 million smartphones during the quarter. Global sales of the Galaxy S24 were up 8% compared to last year's Galaxy S23 series in the first three weeks of availability, according to Counterpoint data. Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi took third place with a market share of 14.1% in the first quarter, showing growth of almost 34% compared to the same period last year.
Other manufacturers
Apart from Xiaomi, shipments saw significant year-on-year growth in shipments, according to IDC report Chinese manufacturer Transsion also showed an increase of almost 85% compared to the first quarter of 2023.

It looks like Samsung is firmly in the lead in the smartphone market! 🏆 Their flagship Galaxy S24 line is truly impressive, especially with sales up 8% year-on-year. It will be interesting to see what they have in store next year.

Yes, Samsung is on top now 🐎, but don’t forget about Xiaomi. Their market share of 14.1% indicates serious competition. These Chinese manufacturers do not stop there and continue to step on the heels of the leaders. It will be interesting to follow their development in the future.

What about Apple? 🍎 A 10% drop in sales is a pretty significant blow. Although this may be due to the ban on the use of their smartphones by government employees in China. In any case, they should carefully monitor their competitors and adapt to changing market conditions.

Don't forget about Transsion! 📈 Their 85% year-on-year supply growth is incredible. Apparently, they have found their niche and are gaining more and more fans. I wonder what they offer consumers to achieve such success.

I still remain an Apple loyalist 😎. Despite some decline in sales, their products are still popular and in demand all over the world. Additionally, they continue to introduce innovations and new features that differentiate their smartphones from their competitors.

Eh, all these statistics and numbers... 🥱 For me, the convenience and functionality of a smartphone is more important, and not how many of them are sold. I just choose the one that best suits my needs and lifestyle, and the rest is a matter of taste and preference.
Анна
I agree with Georgiy! 👍 In the end, we buy smartphones not to support some company, but for personal use. Therefore, I always advise choosing what is convenient and what you like, and not focusing on sales statistics and market shares.

These trends are funny 😆. Today one leader, tomorrow another. But in a year everything could change. I don’t chase new products at all and stay away from this race. My good old smartphone has served me faithfully for several years now, and I see no reason to change it.
Мария
Oh, Boris, you are so old-fashioned 😄! But there is some truth in your words. Don't blindly follow trends and update your smartphone every year. However, being stuck with outdated models is also not very wise. It is important to find a balance between new opportunities and personal needs.
Марк
I agree that it is important to consider personal preferences and needs, but market trends should not be ignored either. 📊 They can help you make a more informed choice when buying a new smartphone, especially if you plan to use it for several years.

Well, the main thing for me is the camera 📷! I love taking photos and sharing my photos on social media, so I choose a smartphone with the best camera on the market. And in this regard, Samsung and Apple really stand out among their competitors.

Does anyone pay attention to the environmental friendliness of smartphone production? 🌱 Nowadays, this is becoming an increasingly important factor for many consumers. It would be interesting to know how different brands feel about this issue and what measures they are taking to reduce their carbon footprint.
Екатерина
Very good question, Pierre! 💚 Indeed, environmental aspects of production should be a priority for modern companies. I remember that some brands have already started using recycled materials and more environmentally friendly processes. But, of course, there is room for growth in this direction.
Михаил
Don't forget about safety! 🔒 With the growing number of smartphones and their use for various tasks, the issue of protecting personal data is becoming increasingly relevant. I always prefer brands that focus on the cybersecurity and privacy of their users.
Татьяна
Great point, Michael! 👍 Security should really be one of the key factors when choosing a smartphone. After all, we trust them with so much personal information and data that must be reliably protected from prying eyes and intruders.
